  • Salvation Army’s Battle of the Bells is heating up as local leaders compete to raise funds for the Red Kettle Campaign, with over $6,000 donated so far and bell ringing planned on Saturday while online donations will be accepted until Dec. 31.  Bowling Green Daily News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Thursday, the Bowling Green Fire Department responded to a structure fire at Kobe Aluminum at 6:03 a.m. and Chief Justin Brooks confirmed the fire is under control with no injuries while the incident remains under investigation.  WNKY

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bowling Green native Cole Vaughan, a GSA alumnus, sang at an Evening Salon hosted by Micki and Alan Simpson at their home on Thursday, Dec. 18 to promote the Governor's School for the Arts.   • In 1967, Bowling Green Mall opened as one of the first enclosed shopping centers in Kentucky, drawing shoppers with local stores and festive displays. Today, its historic midcentury design hosts WKU Innovation Campus and a small business accelerator, transforming the space into a hub for local startups.  WNKY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local residents raised concerns at recent planning commission meetings, and officials approved a plan to split a historic property at 1337 Cardinal Way into three divisions. Developers bid on the property in September and a review confirmed it met city standards.  WBKO

  • Ventura Foods LLC is recalling salad dressings sold locally because they may contain black plastic in granulated onion. The recall, initiated on Nov. 6 (affecting over 3,500 cases), is still ongoing as reported by the FDA.  WNKY
  • Medicaid members in Bowling Green can now switch their managed care organization anytime — easing enrollment restrictions. Lawmakers debated several bills, though none passed, and Kynect’s Pricilla Easterling warned that rising premiums may challenge local households.  WNKY

  • South Warren head coach Brandon Smith was named the KFCA Jimmy Reed Coach of the Year on Wednesday after leading his Spartans to a 13-1 season and state championship run at Kroger Field — his first overall honor in 12 seasons.
