COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Cumberland County distributed a trailer load of toys at the Burkesville Christmas Parade as part of its second annual toy event. Judge King said the project is set to continue for years and the remaining gifts will be distributed at the Hegira Christmas Parade on Sunday, Dec. 21.  WBKO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bowling Green High School celebrated multicultural day on Dec. 9 with students from 25 countries sharing traditions through performances, food and cultural displays. Soccer captain Byaombe Matendo thanked the audience while highlighting his Tanzanian heritage.  Bowling Green Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Western Kentucky redshirt senior punter Cole Maynard was named to the Walter Camp All-America Second Team on Dec. 12, earning Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Year honors. Maynard led the nation in punting average this season, marking the first All-America nod for a WKU player since 2011.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Bowling Green high school basketball games ended Saturday with Warren Central rallying to a 63-62 win over Taylor County at Bardstown High School – after trailing by 16, they will face Louisville St. Xavier on Thursday. FCA and Barren County also secured wins.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • The Allen County-Scottsville girls’ basketball team won 47-40 over Bowling Green in the State Farm Fourth Region Challenge on Saturday, Dec. 13, at Bowling Green High School, snapping a four-game losing streak against the Lady Purples.   • In the Don Franklin Auto Barren Hoops Classic at Barren County High School, South Warren edged Monroe County 58 to 53 Saturday after forcing a crucial turnover in the final seconds — Coach Carlos Quarles said the team will return Tuesday night.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Daily News published updated area basketball polls on Sunday, Dec. 14. In the girls' poll, Barren County held top spot while Cumberland County climbed to second and Allen County-Scottsville moved to third; in the boys' poll, Warren Central led and Bowling Green slipped to fifth.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Western Kentucky’s women’s basketball team won 80-50 in Grand Forks on Sunday, Dec. 14 — five players scored in double digits for the first time this season — and the Lady Toppers improved to 3-0 when at least four players score 10-plus points.  Bowling Green Daily News
