- ➤ The Flying Pig Coffee Shoppe in Russellville is serving a home cooked Christmas meal for all 50 BRASS residents this holiday season and will seek volunteers for a New Year’s meal soon (call Hannah H. at 270-781-9334 for details). WNKY
- ➤ Even after four years since the December 2021 tornado, the Center for Accessible Living is helping survivors in Bowling Green secure housing, wheelchair ramps & funds for accessible vehicles. Mahira Besic, who lost everything, continues to benefit from this ongoing support. WNKY
- ➤ Teen students at the Boys and Girls Club in Bowling Green have launched a concession stand that raised over $2000 to sponsor nearly 350 kids needing Christmas gifts, with four already sponsored and more support needed (led by Kiavean Daniel). WBKO
- ➤ Goodwill Kentucky offers Bowling Green families free access to essential resources at the Bowling Green Opportunity Center (1806 U.S. 31-W Bypass) through 2025. The center provides job-readiness training, career coaching, housing support, and digital skills sessions to help individuals build lasting stability. WNKY
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Forty-five years ago, Mariah’s Restaurant opened in Bowling Green’s oldest building and became a hub for homestyle meals and family celebrations. It later housed Steamers Seafood and now Bluegrass Ingredients uses the space for R&D, preserving local memories. WNKY
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At WKU, the Faculty Senate discussed a preliminary dorm partnership with Gilbane that may lead to a $300 million investment and include a $5.8 million exit penalty (which WKU may avoid) while backing student resolutions for 24-hour study spaces and water dispensers slated for spring. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ TVA will partner with BGMU on Dec. 18 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Salvation Army on 400 W. Main Ave. to give away free hams to customers showing a BGMU bill and matching ID (covering eight power providers in nine counties and serving over 3,800 families). WBKO
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Western Kentucky University has been awarded $158,000 to support suicide prevention training for 140 social work students + 100 licensed clinicians, as part of a federal grant benefitting 12 organizations to strengthen public safety across the commonwealth. The program is funded by the Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program. WNKY
- ➤ Restore Life Behavioral Health held a ribbon cutting Thursday morning at its new office at 730 Fairview Ave to offer mental and spiritual therapy, as owner Shervetta Porter said the center aims to remove barriers to care after a year in the area. WNKY

- ➤ Six South Warren athletes signed to play college sports on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at South Warren High School.
