COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bowling Green residents can join a bowl-making event on Saturday, Jan. 31 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Warren County Public Library IDEA Lab to make bowls for the 13th Empty Bowls fundraiser on March 19 at Broadway United Methodist Church; funds support local food charities.  WNKY
  • On Monday afternoon, the Rotary Club held its sixth annual shoe donation drive at Dishman McGinnis Elementary and gave 100 new pairs of shoes to students in need. The club will visit five local schools to hand out hundreds more pairs—providing extra support to local families.  WNKY

BUSINESS NEWS

  • UFS ARK, a new international joint venture, launched in Bowling Green and will develop fiber-optic hydrogen detection systems to boost local technology jobs and training in partnership with Western Kentucky University (WKU President Timothy Caboni said the effort supports a future-focused economy).  WBKO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • TVA and Bicentennial Volunteers Inc are awarding $1.5 million in STEM grants to educators at Kentucky schools including Bowling Green, with awards up to $5,000 intended to boost science, technology, engineering & math learning. The competitive program received 528 applications and funded 339 projects statewide.  WBKO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Warren County Parks and Recreation Department unveiled its strategic plan on Thursday, proposing a $1.2 million operating budget increase & nearly $50-million in capital improvements over five to seven years to boost athletic facilities and trails.   • BGPD unveiled its new vehicle design Monday & the first updated cruisers began patrolling later that afternoon, reflecting the department’s core values of Service, Integrity, and Respect.  WNKY

SPORTS NEWS

  • Monday's Sunrise Spotlight featured Ashlee Wilson with Ryan Pattee and Tony Brown discussing BG Puck Classic at the local SoKY Ice Rink. The broadcast provided details on the upcoming hockey event for local fans.  WNKY
  • WKU Football accepted an invitation to play in the New Orleans Bowl on Tuesday, Dec. 23 at Caesars Superdome, where the Hilltoppers who finished an 8 to 4 season will face Southern Miss at 4:30 p.m.  WBKO
  • The Lady Scotties defeated the Lady Gators 45-36 in their first home game on Tuesday, improving to a 2-0 record. Glasgow returns to action Friday at home against Bowling Green at 6 p.m.  WCLU Radio
