COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Toys for Tots is hosting its Hand It to a Hero Toy Drive today at the Walmart on Campbell Lane from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—local law enforcement and military branches are joining to collect toys and donations for children as demand grows this season.  WNKY
  • Atomic Kitchen at 360 E 8th Avenue will donate at least $500 from its November sales to Kentucky Kids on the Block as its Helping High Five Charity recipient. The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday—supporting the nonprofit’s work to teach children about acceptance.  WNKY
  • Bowling Green’s Warren County Public Library will host its fourth annual Small Business Saturday Market (from 10 am to 3 pm) this weekend at the Bob Kirby Branch (175 Iron Skillet Court) where over 40 local businesses will show items from holiday decor to clothing. The event draws about 700 attendees each year.  WNKY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Kentucky Department of Education released its annual assessment data from the 2024-25 Kentucky Summative Assessments, covering public schools including BGISD and WCPS. WCPS saw gains in postsecondary readiness and graduation rates while BGISD noted improved high school scores in reading and math — both districts will use the data to guide future teaching strategies.  Bowling Green Daily News

  • Western Kentucky’s men’s basketball team defeated Wichita State 75-70 on Friday night at Imperial Arena in the Bahamas using a balanced offense led by Boone’s career-high 22 points—WKU will return home to play Evansville on Dec. 6 at 3 p.m.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • On November 27, WKU men’s basketball lost 97-91 in overtime to South Florida at Imperial Arena during Battle 4 Atlantis — Teagan Moore scored a career-high 27 points as the team lost its early lead and Coach Hank Plona said they must work to finish games stronger.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Today, WKU will close its regular season against Jax State (at AmFirst Stadium in Jacksonville, Alabama) with a win needed for a Conference USA Championship berth; the game begins at (1 p.m. CT) and will be streamed on ESPN.  WNKY
  • The South Warren Spartans defeated the Ryle Raiders by a score of 36 to 20 Friday — marking their first title game appearance since 2021 as a member of Class 6A — to earn a spot in the state championship.  WNKY
