COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Franklin native Val Pope joined the army in 1942 and filmed the D-Day invasion before he died at age 25 near Gouesnou in summer 1944. Today a monument is being dedicated near Gouesnou—honoring about 200 soldiers and reminding the community of each unique sacrifice in World War II.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Room in the Inn opened its winter shelter program on November 15 to provide emergency housing for homeless individuals using partnering churches across Bowling Green during the cold months. The shelter offers guests food, hygiene items and access to social services while a lottery system helps manage its limited capacity — showing the ongoing community effort.  WBKO

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A professor from Western Kentucky University explained that organizations such as companies, agencies and schools must review nine key factors like hiring, internal communication and flexibility to plan for the future. CULTURE NEWS

  • A festival honoring local blues pioneer Porter Parish Grainger will begin on November 20 in Bowling Green, organized by the Jack Dappa Blues Heritage Preservation Foundation. Free events include panel discussions at the Kentucky Museum, a blues workshop at WKU, and a concert on November 22 (all highlighting BG’s role in the blues movement) to revive his legacy.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Artist Liza Slaughter-Barker used a chainsaw and carving tools to shape wooden gnomes, wreaths, and Christmas trees at the Reindeer Farm in Bowling Green Saturday, November 15—families visited the farm to see her work up close.  Bowling Green Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • RossTarrant Architects revealed plans to renovate Bowling Green Junior High School, adding spaces for band, orchestra, choir, drama, science labs and a multipurpose room, with construction set to begin late spring and finish for school start in August 2028. BGISD will use about $3.1 million in remaining capital funds to repurpose classrooms, renovate the cafeteria and modify the bus loop—measures that meet new state guidelines.  Bowling Green Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, health inspectors reviewed several local food establishments—ranging from hotels to school cafeterias—and found violations such as bulk food stored outside proper containers, unclean surfaces, and missing sanitizing measures; the Barren River District Health Department will continue inspections every six months to enforce food safety standards.  Bowling Green Daily News

  • Bowling Green senior running back Montravion Tre Graham rushed for 141 yards and scored two touchdowns in a playoff win over Apollo on November 14. His 72-yard and 51-yard touchdown runs sparked the offense and set the stage for the Purples, who will face Atherton in the state quarterfinals on November 21.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • South Warren’s football team beat Hopkinsville 51—23 on Friday in a playoff rematch at South Warren High School. The Spartans, who improved their record to 11—0, scored on seven of eight drives early and will host Henderson County on November 21 at 7 p.m.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Western Kentucky’s volleyball team claimed a share of its 11th Conference USA regular-season championship with a 3-0 sweep of Liberty in Lynchburg, Virginia on Saturday—Alivia Skidmore led with 14 kills and the team will head to Miami next week for the tournament.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • WKU Football beat Middle Tennessee 42-26 on Senior Day at Houchens-Smith Stadium on Saturday in Bowling Green as the team recorded over 600 yards of offense and claimed a seventh straight win over their rival - the win moved WKU to 8-2 overall and 6-1 in Conference USA play while celebrating 30 seniors before the game.  WNKY
