CULTURE NEWS

  • Readers continue to weigh in on the region's oldest restaurants — Frosty Freeze in Franklin from 1956, Dovie’s in Tompkinsville serving burgers since 1938, and Bowling Green’s Smokey Pig Bar B Q from 1969 — as research into these historic eateries goes on; downtown, a food donation box at the Daily News accepts non-perishables Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday until 4 p.m. to support local food pantries.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Local artist Lexie Erskine was awarded the Art Enrichment Grant from the Kentucky Foundation of Women—supporting her work that honors nature and the important women in her life—and will host an art reception at The Capitol on November 16 at 2 p.m. —the event offers the community a chance to view her meaningful work.  WBKO

  • Teacher Scott Johnson built a prosthetic hand with a 3D printer for fourth grader Jackson Farmer—born without his right hand—to help him play sports and pick up objects; he paid for the device himself and can fix it quickly in the school lab.  Spectrum News 1

  • Western Kentucky's women’s basketball fell to Longwood 80-42 on Saturday in Farmville, Virginia—Longwood scored the first seven points and built a steady lead while WKU’s Jeniffer Silva led with 12 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • The Russellville Panthers lost 35-13 to Holy Cross in the Class A state playoffs on Friday, November 7 at Rhea Stadium—injuries and heavy penalties weakened their play and snapped their five-game win streak, and coach Mikie Benton said the loss forced the team to adjust for next season.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • In Friday’s Class 5A state football playoff game at Greenwood High School, the Gators won 21-18 over Madisonville-North Hopkins despite fog rising in the second half. The win, which improved their record to 7-4, gives them a spot in the second round against Owensboro on November 14.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • On Friday night, the WKU Hilltoppers beat Delaware three sets to one at E.A. Diddle Arena with standout plays from Kaira Knox who had 20 kills and Izzy Van De Wiele who recorded a season-high eight blocks—improving their record to 21 wins and 5 losses.  Bowling Green Daily News
