- ➤ Veterans Day started in 1919 as Armistice Day to remember soldiers from the Great War—Congress made it a federal holiday in 1938 and it was renamed in 1954 to honor all who served—and after a change in 1971, supporters restored November 11 as the official date; local groups will hold ceremonies this weekend to thank veterans. - ➤ The Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center will take over managing Concerts in the Park next year while the Warren County Public Library will lead Winterfest events following the passing of former DRA head Ron Murphy — the Downtown Redevelopment Authority will wind down and dissolve in 2026.
