- ➤ Local food pantries and several organizations in Bowling Green are stepping up as families face higher food insecurity, with extended hours and food collection efforts underway. - ➤ On Thursday during Homecoming, two WKU alumni, George Nichols III and Connie Moreland Smith, were inducted into the Hall of Distinguished Alumni at the Knicely Conference Center on WKU’s South Campus while seven other alumni received awards for their achievements. Nichols (Kentucky’s first Black insurance commissioner) and Smith, president of Med Center Health in Bowling Green, were honored at the Hilltopper Excellence Awards presented by Franklin Bank & Trust Company. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ WKU’s Society of Black Alumni announced on Wednesday that it is separating from the university’s Alumni Association because the school must follow House Bill 4 rules. The group will work to become an independent nonprofit—keeping its focus on serving black and brown students. College Heights Herald
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ On Friday night, Greenwood Gators won 45-23 with senior Davis Chaney scoring three touchdowns plus quarterback Noah Wyatt opening the scoring, while Franklin County beat Bowling Green 28-18. Russellville defeated Butler County 28-7 and Barren County beat ACS 40-0, with state playoff games set for November 7. Bowling Green Daily News
- ➤ Greenwood cross country teams competed at the KHSAA Class 3A state championships in Lexington on Saturday. Greenwood senior Justin Doran finished sixth on the boys 5000 meter course in 15 minutes 50.21 seconds and led the boys to finish in sixteenth place with 485 points—while Allie Doran finished ninth and helped the girls earn a sixth place overall.
