- ➤ South Central Bank will host its annual Veterans Celebration Breakfast on Nov. 10 from 7 to 9 a.m. at the Operations Center — where U.S. Military Veterans and First Responders will be honored with a complimentary meal. WBKO
- ➤ Today, The Salvation Army of Bowling Green launched an emergency food campaign as rising grocery and utility costs drive more families to seek help. The agency now offers community lunches every weekday—fruit and vegetable boxes at 10 a.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, and monthly food box distributions—to support neighbors in need. WBKO
- ➤ On Sunday, October 26th, hundreds of costumed children and families attended the rainy Heroes Fest held in a Med Center Health parking lot in Bowling Green where first responders handed out candy from firetrucks, ambulances, police cruisers and an emergency evacuation helicopter. - ➤ A Boyle County couple won $50,000 in a Powerball drawing when the Kentucky Lottery confirmed their online ticket purchased nearly six weeks ago in September. They claimed $36,000 after taxes — and they plan to pay off their truck and buy a new swing set for their grandchildren. WNKY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bowling Green Public Works will begin its free leaf pickup program on November 17 for 30 days to stop leaves from clogging stormwater drains — residents must only put out leaves and follow posted guidelines — and collected leaves will be turned into mulch at Western Kentucky University. WBKO
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Warren County Health Department in Bowling Green finished a $7.8 million renovation that expanded its clinic to include 10 exam rooms and upgraded the harm reduction program so it will operate five days a week from January +the upgrades were funded by local, state, and federal support+. - ➤ Norton Children's Bowling Green launched a food pantry today to help patients cope with food insecurity + child development delays. The pantry offers nutritious food + safety items in a private setting to support families during appointments. WBKO
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Western Kentucky volleyball will play Middle Tennessee State at 6 p.m. Friday and at 1 p.m. Saturday after splitting weekend games with UTEP—Coach Travis Hudson said the team showed a strong bounce back after a loss that snapped UTEP's 100-game conference winning streak. A statue honoring Coach Hudson will be unveiled at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 8 outside gate 2 at E.A. Diddle Arena to mark his milestone and contributions to the team. Bowling Green Daily News
- ➤ Western Kentucky's men's basketball team will test its lineup in an exhibition game against UAB at 6:30 p.m. today in Birmingham—coach Hank Plona said the tuneup will help build a team from local recruits ahead of Monday's home opener against Tennessee Tech. Bowling Green Daily News
- ➤ WKU Soccer junior midfielder Georgia Liapis was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week after scoring her ninth goal in a 1-0 win at Jax State — marking her second honor this season. The Hilltoppers will face Missouri State for the CUSA Championship on Nov. 2 at 3:30 p.m. WNKY
