COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bowling Green Parks and Recreation hosted its annual Trunk-or-Treat at Preston Miller Park on Thursday night, where hundreds of local families enjoyed free candy, decorations, and games — local businesses and the Special Olympics program gained support from the event. The holiday celebration is one of several themed activities planned by Parks and Recreation.  WNKY
  • The Bowling Green Police Department hosted toddler Elliot Jackson—who had brain and spine surgery for a rare disease—for a day full of smiles as he toured police cars, tried on a police hat and took home toys and a coloring book.  WBKO

CULTURE NEWS

  • The National Corvette Museum broke ground Thursday morning on a new 66,000-square-foot collections facility — a space to store historic Corvettes, rare artifacts, and memorabilia and to support its educational programs. The project will offer more behind-the-scenes experiences and is expected to open in the fall of 2026.  WNKY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Western Kentucky University was named for its strong green efforts for the 16th year in a row in the Princeton Review Guide to Green Colleges — the school earned a score of 91 based on feedback from over 400 colleges and has focused on green projects since it opened its Office of Sustainability in 2008.  WBKO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sen. Mitch McConnell issued a statement expressing deep sadness over the death of former Warren Co. sheriff Jerry 'Peanuts' Gaines, who served nearly four decades in law enforcement. The sheriff's office said he was known for his kindness and humor—traits that left a lasting impact on the community.  WNKY
  • Gov. Andy Beshear announced two major economic development projects in Glasgow and Bowling Green during his Team Kentucky update on Thursday — officials said the investments are expected to support local growth as further details are pending.  WBKO
  • Kentucky's state legislature approved a plan to lower the state income tax from 4% to 3.5% starting in 2026 to save over $700 million for working Kentuckians. The tax cut is part of a broader plan to eventually eliminate the tax—if the economy meets required benchmarks each year.  WNKY

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Palakodeti at Graves-Gilbert Clinic said that breast reconstruction helps patients feel whole after surgery—an important part of their healing process. Mammographers Neyenhaus and Rogers add that they work to ease patients' worries by clearly explaining what to expect—helping guide them through each step.  WNKY
  • T.J. Regional Health is planning to open its first Warren County clinic in Smiths Grove — with a groundbreaking ceremony scheduled on Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. — and construction is expected to wrap up by late 2026 depending on weather conditions.  WBKO
  • The American Red Cross is asking donors to give blood or platelets from Oct 27 through Nov 16 to help keep hospital shelves stocked for the holidays. Donors will get a $20 e‑gift card and a chance to win a $5,000 prize — eligible donors must be in good health and have proper ID.  WBKO
  • This Saturday, National Prescription Drug Take Back Day will let community members safely discard prescription drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at four Warren County sites including the Bowling Green Police Department at 911 Kentucky St.—the event is free, anonymous, and run by the Bowling Green-Warren County Drug Task Force to help prevent opioid addiction.  WNKY

  • WKU will unveil a bronze statue honoring Head Coach Travis Hudson on Nov. 8 at 2:30 p.m. CT outside Gate 2 at E.A. Diddle Arena—Hudson, with 797 career wins and a Hall of Fame induction last Nov. 16, leads his 31st season. Before the ceremony, WKU Volleyball will play Delaware at 12 p.m. CT in their final regular season home match.  WNKY
