COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Yesterday, local residents had several events as Montana grille held the Paws 2025 drive-thru Rib Dinner at 3 p.m. to benefit the Humane Society—Leslie E. Barras discussed her book at the Logan County Public Library at 6 p.m.—the Capitol Teen Theatre staged an adapted Dracula at 6:30 p.m.—and the Bob Kirby branch of the Warren County Public Library hosted a home buying workshop at 6 p.m.  WNKY
  • Bowling Green Parks and Recreation hosted a block party on Monday for the newly renovated Reservoir Hill playground where local officials enjoyed food and free ice cream. The park is now open for public use after a year of weather delays and is much larger than before—featuring new play sets and historic wooden fences that honor its past.  WNKY
  • Bowling Green volunteer Vicki Weaver—who has served The Dream Factory for over 30 years—was honored with the national volunteer of the year award for her work in helping children achieve their dreams.  WNKY
  • Hosparus Health Barren River is seeking volunteers to help fellow veterans and provide companionship by hosting a free training session on November 11 from 9 a.m. to noon at 101 Riverwood Ave in Bowling Green—volunteers are expected to commit at least two hours monthly.  WNKY

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Three teens — including 18-year-old Emily Corbin from Hardyville — died in a Friday night crash at the intersection of Veterans Outer Loop and North Jackson Highway in Glasgow, and police reported that alcohol was a factor in the incident.  WNKY

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Sunday, anime fans from across Kentucky and beyond gathered at the Corvette Museum Conference Center for Bowling Green Anime-Fest, a fourth-year event featuring voice actors, artists, vendors, trivia contests and a large cosplay competition (it offered a safe, family-friendly space for creative fans to connect).  WNKY
  • The annual World’s Greatest Studio Tour will return next month in Bowling Green—spanning 13 locations in Bowling Green and Warren County for a free event where residents can meet local artists and see new art. The tour is set for Saturday, Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 2 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.  WNKY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bowling Green students visited a local farm to learn about agriculture and see different ways food is used—offering them a hands-on look at how local farming works. The experience gave them clear, practical lessons on food production.  WBKO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said traffic on four state roads in Barren County will face lane closures and delays this week due to finishing work on resurfacing, milling, and paving projects—South Green Street and Happy Valley Road are among the affected routes. Projects in nearby counties, including work on I-165, KY 185, KY 2265, and U.S. 68, will also impact motorists as crews continue improvements.  WCLU Radio
  • Gov. Andy Beshear said that a federal shutdown halted November SNAP funding for over 600,000 Kentuckians & delayed temporary TANF benefits, leaving many families in a tough situation. He noted that the state will cover TANF for November while awaiting a government reopening, though December benefits remain uncertain.  WKYU-FM
  • The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 released a Traffic Impact Report for Oct. 19 through Oct. 24 that details highway projects in counties including Butler and Warren. Motorists should expect lane closures, revised speed limits, and delays on routes such as I-165 and several state highways—some projects will continue into fall.  WNKY

  • Over 200 Special Olympics bowlers will compete at Southern Lanes in Bowling Green this Saturday, Oct 25, with a first session for male singles starting at 8:45 a.m. and a later session for female, ramp assisted, and unified competitions beginning at 11:45 a.m.—winners will qualify for the State Tournament in Louisville on Dec 6-7.  WNKY
  • Conference USA announced WKU players of the week with Skidmore named Offensive, Baron named Defensive, and Bauer named Setter. Bauer led the Hilltoppers to their 100th straight win on Monday — marking her third Setter honor in a row — and the team will face UTEP on Friday and Saturday at E.A.
