EDUCATION NEWS

  • A Bowling Green teen is holding a children's book drive for her final Eagles Scout project — the drive aims to help more children learn to read.  WBKO
  • Warren County Public Schools, Sheriff Hightower, and Rep. Guthrie announced a $575,000 radio upgrade that improved emergency and everyday communications across a 550-square-mile district — the system, funded mostly by a COPS grant with a 25% match, enhanced clarity at Greenwood High and other schools. The upgrade has boosted safety measures for students and staff as officials reviewed its performance after implementation.  Bowling Green Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • BRADD held a public meeting at Park City Senior Center to gather feedback on a planned paved trail that will connect Bowling Green to Mammoth Cave National Park — the 30-mile path is expected to run through Barren, Edmonson and Warren counties and support biking, hiking and horse riding. Regional leaders and local officials, including Representative Brett Guthrie, discussed safety concerns and future maintenance plans — the project remains in early planning and invites more public input.  WCLU Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • Graves Gilbert Clinic and GGC Health said they will stop accepting Humana insurance plans starting February 1—this change covers both Humana Medicaid and Medicare Advantage plans. Patients with these plans can see their current providers until January 31 as clinic leaders say Humana made care harder by enforcing tough policies.  WNKY

  • Big Boy is a 4-year-old pet who enjoys long walks and loves playing with kids — he is friendly with other dogs but may snatch a treat if one is offered. Readers can meet Big Boy at The Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society if they are interested in adopting him.  WNKY

  • Bowling Green juniors Roberto Lagunez and Oliver Gonzales led the Purples to a 17 to 14 win over Greenwood on Friday when Gonzales hit a 27 yard field goal in the final second at Bowling Green High School — the dramatic play secured a narrow victory.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Former WKU quarterback Brandon Doughty was honored during WKU’s home game against Florida International on Tuesday night as part of the CUSA Hall of Fame Class, alongside former volleyball player Jessica Lucas and coach Travis Hudson. He became WKU’s first football player inducted and was celebrated for his record-setting role on the team.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Bowling Green’s boys’ soccer team won four to zero in the Region 4 championship at Bowling Green Junior High on October 16 when they scored three second-half goals to beat South Warren. The team will host Region 1 champion McCracken County on Monday at 7 p.m. — senior players led the win with goals by Christian Ramirez and Barzilai Ruelas.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Western Kentucky's men's basketball program has announced its broadcast schedule for select games this season—its first national broadcast will come during the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament over Thanksgiving with an 11 a.m. CT game against Vanderbilt on Nov.26 airing live on ESPN. The team will also play on CBS Sports Network on Jan.28 against Middle Tennessee and on Feb.5 against Jax State while season and single game tickets are now on sale.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • During media day on Oct. 16, WKU Lady Toppers built quick team chemistry as senior forward Telegdy and new guard Rowe bonded through team activities — like pickle ball and game nights. Coach Greg Collins said these off-court events will help the team in upcoming games — including an exhibition against Lindsey Wilson on Oct. 30.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Western Kentucky’s women’s soccer team tied 1-1 with UTEP on October 16 after sophomore Alyvia Walls scored a game-tying goal with 11 seconds left at the WKU Soccer Complex. The tie moved the Hilltoppers to first place alongside Liberty in Conference USA with a 7-4-3 record — and they will play New Mexico State on Sunday at 1 p.m.  Bowling Green Daily News
