Main Ave., celebrated its one-year anniversary Saturday — drawing support from the community with live music by Bruce Kessler’s band Mt. Victor Revue as owner Sarah Kessler marked a milestone while expanding offerings for both pets and people. CULTURE NEWS

  • Bowling Green native Mattie Barker was crowned Miss Kentucky USA in July and will leave for Reno on Oct. 18 to compete in Miss USA. The 22-year-old Belmont University graduate works as a recruiter and uses her title to support mental health awareness for youth through volunteer efforts—she aims to share her personal experience and inspire change.  Bowling Green Daily News

  • The Martin Automotive Group raised $200,000 at a benefit gala on October 15 to mark its 40th anniversary— the funds will help current and future WKU students. Group head Chad Martin said the company will keep supporting WKU and Bowling Green.  Bowling Green Daily News

  • Warren County Public Schools and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office celebrated a $570,000 communications upgrade secured by Congressman Brett Guthrie during a ceremony at Greenwood High School—this Motorola-developed system, now installed in all middle and high schools, has eliminated dead zones and improved emergency responses.  WNKY

  • Bowling Green senior Barzilai Ruelas scored two goals and assisted three others in an 8-1 win over Glasgow in Tuesday’s Region 4 Boys' Soccer Tournament semifinals at Bowling Green Junior High School—Alfonso Mendoza scored two more and Benjamin Arauz added a goal with an assist as the Purples prepare to face South Warren in today's championship match.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Bowling Green junior goalie Ella Wiesbrook saved seven shots, including a penalty kick stop, to help the Lady Purples win the District 14 Tournament championship against the Lady Gators at Bowling Green Junior High School today.   • Florida International defeated Western Kentucky 25-6 on Tuesday at Houchens-Smith Stadium after forcing three interceptions by quarterback Maverick McIvor while racking up 453 yards of total offense.
