COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A local nonprofit CAREUSTZ launched a campaign to raise $100,000 for a food truck that will expand its AfriGhanistan Cuisine program, which has been serving Bowling Green residents every Monday at the SOKY Center. The program blends African and Afghan dishes and partnered with the Red Cross — it will increase service days and reach more neighborhoods — as the fundraiser continues.  WBKO
  • Band Together BG presented checks to several non-profit organizations at WBKO Studios—donation amounts were not disclosed but the funds will support local charities.  WBKO
  • A Bowling Green family has kept a free haunted house tradition alive for 15 years because they love Halloween—this annual event shows their deep community spirit.  WBKO

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • WKUPD officer Jackson Fletcher and BGFD responded to a microwave fire in room 309 of Jody Richards Hall on Monday, Oct. 13, 2025—students evacuated the building after smoke and alarms were reported and emergency crews arrived about five minutes later to contain the fire.  College Heights Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bowling Green junior Reagan Wheeler scored four goals and provided two assists to help the Lady Purples win 9-0 over Todd County Central on Sunday at South Warren High School — her teammates also contributed to the victory, and the win moves the team into Tuesday’s semifinals against Glasgow.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Western Kentucky won two road games and will return home today to play FIU at Houchens-Smith Stadium at 7 p.m. Before the game, the team will host a free concert by Blanco Brown at 5:30 p.m.—and the matchup will test its perfect conference record.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Senior setter Callie Bauer earned her second straight Conference USA Setter of the Week honor after recording 66 assists and boosting the Hilltoppers' hitting percentage to .431 in a recent match (she has earned four of seven weekly honors so far). Bauer also surpassed 4,000 career assists (making her only the seventh setter in program history to reach this milestone) and WKU will face Sam Houston on Friday and Saturday at E.A.   • Bowling Green Girls Soccer player Sophia Casana scored a penalty kick that won the 14th District title and teammate Wasoo Shindano scored another key goal in the match on Oct. 13, 2025—these plays secured a district win for the team.  WBKO
  • The Lady Toppers held an open practice on Saturday — Oct. 11 — at E.A. Diddle Arena to introduce players to fans with drills, a scrimmage against their scout team, and karaoke. Coach Greg Collins said the team — led by returning starter Zsofia Telegdy and six new players — is preparing to open the season on Nov. 5.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Western Kentucky’s women’s soccer team won 4-3 over Missouri State Sunday at Allison South Stadium in Springfield—Georgia Liapis scored two goals while Lauren Alexander and Alyvia Walls each recorded their first college goal. The win broke Missouri State’s 24-game conference unbeaten streak, raised WKU’s record to 7-4-2, and the team will host UTEP Thursday at 7 p.m.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Western Kentucky University Baseball hosted the Louisville Slugger Warriors (the nation's only competitive amputee baseball team) in a charity exhibition game at Nick Denes Field on Saturday. The Bowling Green Rotary Club, Army ROTC, and WKU departments organized the event, and proceeds will support scholarships and youth baseball programs (from reserved seating and donations).  WNKY
  • Western Kentucky’s women’s tennis team finished its fall schedule on Sunday at the Middle Tennessee Fall Invitational in Murfreesboro with wins in both singles and doubles — ending with records of 20-11 in singles and 11-7 in doubles.
