  • Bowling Green Parks and Recreation will host an adaptive sports showcase on November 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Kummer Little Recreation Center—this meeting explains available sports for community members with disabilities.  WNKY

  • Moe's Southwest Grill opened at 1056 Lovers Lane on Friday at 10:30 a.m. and at least 50 people lined up to receive free burritos for a year—local student Mattie Johnson said she slept overnight in her car to be among the first winners.  WNKY
  • Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College held an entrepreneurial summit on Friday at its Bowling Green campus where students, staff and community members learned how to start, fund and brand businesses. The event ended with a competition modeled on Shark Tank where local business leaders scored student plans—sparking new ideas for local growth.  WNKY

CULTURE NEWS

  • Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center earned international praise — it ranked No. 8 among top venues in the 1,501 to 2,500 category from Pollstar Magazine. The honor covers events held from Aug. 26 to Sept. 22 and shows the community’s support for quality acts like Rick Springfield and The Avett Brothers.  WNKY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers in Bowling Green will face delays at Exit 7 U.S. 231 on I-165 as on and off ramps close Sunday, Oct. 12 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Monday, Oct. 13 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.—the bridge stays open for U.S. 231 with detours marked at Exit 5 U.S. 68.  WNKY

HEALTH NEWS

  • Bowling Green-Warren County Humane Society reported a rise in parvo cases over the past three weeks, with about 40 cases mostly coming from public drop-offs. The shelter is offering free vaccines and urges dog owners to keep unvaccinated puppies indoors (to prevent spread) and out of dog parks (to limit exposure).  WNKY
  • Local CPS worker Kristen Self found a lump last December and was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer on Jan. 14 — she completed four rounds of chemotherapy and 33 sessions of radiation and now urges women to get regular mammograms.  WBKO

  • Evelynn is a 3-year-old pet who is sweet, friendly, and peaceful and is featured as Pet of the Day by Morgantown Bank and Trust—locals can visit the Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society or call 270 783 9404 to meet her.  WNKY

  • Glasgow High School’s boys’ and girls’ soccer teams will begin the 4th region tournament after drawing for their bracket Friday morning in Bowling Green— the Lady Scotties will play Monroe County at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12 at South Warren High School with more matchups scheduled on Oct. 13 and Oct. 14.  WCLU Radio
  • Bowling Green’s boys’ soccer team won its second District 14 title by defeating the Spartans 2-0 on Thursday—improving its record to 13-1 and setting the stage for a regional game at Bowling Green Junior High School on Monday at 5:30 p.m.  Bowling Green Daily News
