- ➤ SAFY of Kentucky held a ribbon cutting in downtown Bowling Green on Thursday afternoon after damage to its former Lehman Avenue location required a new building. The organization works with foster families to provide family centered services at its new address—1027 College Street near 11th Avenue. WNKY
- ➤ Down Syndrome of Southern Kentucky is partnering with Harley-Davidson Bowling Green to host a raffle that will offer a chance to win a 2024 Heritage Softail motorcycle while raising funds to buy a new bus; raffle tickets cost $100 and the drawing will take place on Saturday, Oct. 25. WNKY
- ➤ Today at 4 p.m., Warren County Public Library at the Smith Grove branch hosts LEGO Club for children ages 5 and up to build with provided bricks. Tonight, regional singers and songwriters will share their voices at The Capitol, Hardin Planetarium at WKU will offer a free space presentation about moons at 7 p.m., and Lost River Cave holds a free family Scarecrow Trial for fall fun. - ➤ On Halloween night in 1910, a prank on the streetcar rails near Chestnut—and 12th streets led to 13-year-old Herman Lewis falling from a moving streetcar when motorman Marvin Willis tried to stop the mischief, and Lewis died shortly after his injury; his father's lawsuit later played a role in ending Bowling Green’s streetcar service. - ➤ Three people died on October 5 when a plane returning from Lebanon crashed in a peanut field near Williston Airport in Levy County—Spencer Arnold, a pilot from Bowling Green, and Jacob Harnett with his 11-year-old son Carter; a GoFundMe was started to help the Harnett family. WBKO

- ➤ During Prohibition, bootleggers in Bowling Green used Whiskey Run—a hidden waterway beneath downtown—to move illegal liquor and hide evidence, and the system later helped reveal cash linked to a 1949 bank robbery. WBKO

- ➤ The City of Bowling Green is launching its free Downtown BGKY Ambassador Program that connects 24 selected WKU students—picked from 53 applicants—with leadership, community services and hands-on experience downtown; the program kickoff and orientation is set for Oct. 21. WNKY

- ➤ The Conference USA preseason coaches poll released on October 9 showed Western Kentucky’s women’s basketball team was picked to finish fifth—Louisiana Tech was named the preseason favorite for the upcoming 2025-26 season. Bowling Green Daily News
- ➤ The Bowling Green girls’ soccer team won the District 14 championship game at Bowling Green Junior High School when junior goalkeeper Ella Wiesbrook made seven saves in regulation and stopped a penalty kick to deliver a 1—0 win in the shootout that ended 5—3.
