- ➤ Bowling Green Parks and Rec is hosting a trunk-or-treat at Preston Miller Park on Oct. 23 for $30 per reservation—funds that will help cover new uniforms, travel expenses, and other needs for Special Olympics athletes. The department is also seeking donors, participants in the 5th Unified Swing Golf Scramble, and volunteers for the regional Special Olympics bowling tournament. WNKY
- ➤ On Oct. 1, Goodwill Kentucky held its annual Giving Day campaign and raised nearly $100K from more than 850 donors through golf scrambles — including one in Bowling Green — and local fundraisers. The funds will support career coaching, job training and education programs to help Kentuckians overcome challenges. WNKY
- ➤ A western Kentucky woman won the $50,000 top prize on a Kentucky Lottery scratch-off ticket after she kept it under her pillow until claiming it at lottery headquarters—her son had encouraged her to play at Pal’s in Oak Grove. She said she will use part of her winnings to help pay for her grandchildren’s college and her church’s van. WNKY

- ➤ The Capitol — a historic theater now run by Warren County Public Library — will host free events starting Oct 27 with bestselling author Lauren Tarshis giving a talk and handing out 500 copies of her new book, and it will feature Kentucky author Silas House on Nov 4 with free ticket giveaways. - ➤ Warren County Public Library is using the SOKY Center as a business incubator for health and wellness, offering donation-based movement classes and free programs like Memory Café. - ➤ Morehead State University has hired first-year head coach Ashton Feldhaus to lead its women’s basketball team and continue a storied family legacy in Kentucky basketball—she will open the season against Kentucky on Nov. 3 at Memorial Coliseum. - ➤ The WKU Lady Toppers finished in a tie for third — senior Sydney Hackett claimed a share of the individual championship at the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate in Knoxville on Tuesday. - ➤ WKU Baseball head coach Marc Rardin joined News 40’s Cole Scott on Topper Tuesday to preview the upcoming Heroes on the Hill events—Friday’s free screening of the documentary Curveballs in the Dero Downing Student Union Auditorium and Saturday’s game against the Louisville Slugger Warriors. - ➤ Franklin-Simpson freshman Kami Steward scored three goals to help the Lady Wildcats win the District 13 Girls’ Soccer Tournament championship on Monday at Russellville High School, and Kaylee Barrow, MacKenzie Davidson, Addy McKinney, Bianca Morales, Ava Holland Lilly Ferguson, Briseida Valencia and Sadie Blair also contributed. - ➤ Western Kentucky senior goalkeeper Maddie Davis, freshman forward Makenna Egan, and sophomore defender Abby Wiedermann were named Conference USA Players of the Week after WKU’s 2-0 road trip last week—Davis earned two shutouts, Egan scored the winning goal, and Wiedermann made key defensive plays.
