  • The Foundry Christian Community Center will host a Community Baby Shower on Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to noon at 531 West 11th Ave to give expectant mothers essential baby items and community resource information—organizers say the event is a key introduction for new parents to local support options.  WNKY
  • Bowling Green resident Hannah Tibbs told city commissioners that a gap in a fence built by Menards near Eastland Park has allowed strangers into her backyard and raised safety concerns. City officials said current zoning rules limit their ability to mandate an extension of the fence — the issue may be revisited if local development increases.  Bowling Green Daily News

  • Today, Houchens Industries is relocating a historic grocery store from Lucas to Bowling Green after storm damage removed one building and the guiding sign at Browning School Road and Highway 31E. The store, opened in 1917, will be kept indoors at the Bowling Green facility — preserving the company legacy.  WBKO
  • Martin Automotive Group celebrated 40 years in business during a gala in Bowling Green—raising $200K for a WKU scholarship fund. The event featured greetings from local leaders and a performance by Robin Thicke as part of a yearlong tribute to the company’s legacy.  WNKY
  • Esters Farm Café will host its grand opening on Oct. 9 at 10:30 a.m. at its new 4900 Park City-Bon Ayr Rd location, after moving from Bon Ayr. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Officials with the National Retail Federation forecast record Halloween spending of $13.1 billion as shoppers start early and the Kentucky Retail Federation estimates nearly $115 spent per person on candy, costumes and yard decorations—tariff concerns are driving price increases. Shoppers began in September to spread out purchases and get better deals.  WBKO

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kroger is voluntarily recalling its Basil Pesto Bowtie Salad and Smoked Mozzarella Penne Salad—both sold in Bowling Green and other areas—due to a possible listeria risk; customers who bought these products should return them for a refund or replacement as the FDA reports no illnesses.  WNKY
  • Bendix arranged a limousine ride on Thursday for nearly 20 employees and their spouses to get mammograms at Graves Gilbert Clinic for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Bendix — which included employee spouses in the offer — said the early screening can help catch breast cancer in time.  Bowling Green Daily News

  • Three WKU football players earned Conference USA weekly awards after the Hilltoppers beat Delaware on Friday—quarterback Maverick McIvor earned Offensive Player of the Week, left guard Laurence Seymore won Offensive Lineman of the Week, and running back Marvis Parrish was named Freshman of the Week—helping the team improve to 5-1 as they prepare to host FIU on Oct. 14 with a free pregame concert by Blanco Brown.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • WKU punter Cole Maynard was named on Ray’s 8 for Week 6 by the Ray Guy Award on Monday after punting three times for 138 yards in the win over Delaware—helping set up a key drive that fell short.   • The Glasgow boys' soccer team won its third straight district title on Sunday with a four to one win over Warren East at Warren East High School — Ronaldo Puldon scored two first-half goals as the team secured a spot in the Region 4 tournament starting Oct 12 at Bowling Green.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Conference USA named Hilltoppers volleyball players Sonja Laaksonen as Freshman of the Week and redshirt senior Callie Bauer as Setter of the Week on Monday. Bauer made 75 assists and Laaksonen posted 18 kills—helping WKU earn eight awards this season—while the team prepares for upcoming matches at Louisiana Tech.  Bowling Green Daily News
