COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rachel Coulter celebrated 10 years at Allen County’s Community Action of Southern Kentucky and began her work when she was a student at Allen County-Scottsville High School through an income-based summer program—she has devoted herself to serving the community.  WBKO
  • Local Vietnam veterans took a bus tour this weekend from Aviation Heritage Park to Frankfort to visit the Vietnam War memorial, where DAR members organized the trip along with state police and Rolling Thunder plus officials read a proclamation and explained the memorial’s design history.  WBKO
  • Community members gathered on October 4 at Hot Rods Stadium for the Walk To End Alzheimer’s where 250 people added floral tributes and joined an opening ceremony and walk. The fundraiser collected about $83,000 and plans to double its funds to support research, a 24/7 helpline and support services.  Bowling Green Daily News

  • LaKeisha Brookins started her eyelash business four years ago and now operates a lash vending machine at PJ’s College of Cosmetology on Russellville Rd that celebrated its first birthday at the end of September — she offers a variety of eyelash strips from glitter to party wear.  WBKO

  • Western Kentucky University stopped supporting its Pride Center after a new state law—Kentucky House Bill 4—banned dedicated resources and meeting space at the Downing Student Union; the center, opened in 2017, now must operate independently without university aid.  Bowling Green Daily News

  • Today the Warren County Fire Department wears pink to honor those fighting breast cancer— it started a hood replacement program that cleans and replaces gear exposed to dangerous conditions.  WBKO

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Western Kentucky women’s golf team scored 9-over par 293 on Sunday at the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate in Knoxville and will play today with a two-stroke gap to ninth place. WKU senior Sydney Hackett bounced back from early bogeys and posted three straight birdies to score a 69—tying for fourth overall.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Glasgow’s Lady Scotties ended their title drought since 2015 by rallying from a one-goal deficit to win 3-1 against Warren East on October 5 and advance to the Region 4 tournament—this win marked a major turnaround for the team.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Western Kentucky's volleyball team won a 3—0 match against Missouri State on October 4 in Springfield, Missouri—set scores were 25—20, 25—13, 25—14. The team posted a .489 hitting percentage and racked up 51 kills while sophomore Alivia Skidmore and junior Izzy Van De Wiele led the effort.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • The Scotties beat Warren East 4-1 in the Boys’ 15th District Tournament title game in Glasgow—securing their third straight championship. Key plays by Owen Travis and Ronaldo Puldon helped lead the team to victory.  WCLU Radio
  • Western Kentucky freshman Mackenzie Howard scored the game-winning goal in the final seconds on Sunday in Huntsville, Texas—giving the Hilltoppers a one to zero win over Sam Houston and moving them into first place in Conference USA standings.
