COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Goodwill Kentucky hosted a statewide golf scramble at Crosswinds Golf Course in Bowling Green that raised over $60,000 for programs to help Kentuckians find work—14 teams competed and received awards while enjoying raffle prizes.  WBKO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WKU Student Support Services offers specialized programs that help students with disabilities and first-generation students meet their individual needs. The first-generation program will hold a conference on Nov. 14—15 with keynote speakers and workshops on leadership and college success.  WBKO
  • Western Kentucky University has named its new 120,000-square-foot multi-purpose building the Tim and Sarah Ford Fieldhouse to honor the Fords for their support of athletics and student life; the fieldhouse will open in December.  WNKY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife reported an outbreak of Hemorrhagic Disease in white-tailed deer—553 reports statewide since Sept 22 have recorded 1,074 deer sick or dead—and the department asks anyone who sees a sick or dead deer to report it online.  WBKO

HEALTH NEWS

  • On National Women's Health and Fitness Awareness Day, nurse practitioner Desiree Hughes from She-ology urged women to set daily health and fitness goals to manage stress, sleep, and hormonal issues—she stressed that working with a provider to build a long-term care plan is key to overall wellness.  WBKO

SPORTS NEWS

  • Greenwood junior Kimber Jarboe led the Lady Gators to a 6-1 soccer win over North Hardin on Wednesday by scoring two goals, assisting another, and joining teammates who also scored while Caroline Drexel added a goal and two assists. Goalkeepers Laney Lockhart and Kensley Bryant made 10 saves (seven and three saves respectively) to boost Greenwood’s record to 9-7-1.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Bowling Green high school teams Greenwood and Warren Central are scheduled to meet in week six of football season. Both teams share the same record, district and town — News 40's Cole Scott said the matchup is set to be a classic local rivalry.  WNKY
  • Greenwood senior Justin Doran won the Gatorland Run on his home course at Phil Moore Park Saturday—he finished with a time of 16:01.20 and beat Cutler Embry by eight seconds. He said the win was special as it marked his final race.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • WKU football team will travel to Springfield on Saturday at 6 p.m. to play Missouri State Bears in a matchup that revives ties from past conferences, including local connections with Bears head coach Ryan Beard who played for WKU—bringing former teammates together on the field.  WNKY
  • Tanner Hall—former head football coach at Warren East—submitted his resignation letter to Principal Jonathan Vincent on Thursday morning after he was suspended for an allegation from August 7 that the Department of Community Based Services cleared. He said stepping down would let the team focus on growth and success this season.  WNKY
