  • A council organized by the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce and CREATE inducted three local tech entrepreneurs on September 17th at the WKU Innovation Campus into the new Regional Technology Hall of Fame—Buddy Steen, Jeremy Jacobs and Shawn Rubel. CULTURE NEWS

  • New York Times bestselling author Lauren Tarshis will visit Capitol Theater on Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. to promote her new book 'I Survived the Dust Bowl'—she will speak for 45 minutes, sign books, and the Warren County Public Library will give away 500 free copies on a first-come, first-served basis.  Bowling Green Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Farmers at Jackson’s Orchard faced moderate to severe drought conditions as of Sept 23, with nearly two weeks of no rain affecting apple ripening—trees risk falling before the fruit is ready. The orchard will offer apple picking and fall activities this weekend while relying on a four-acre pond and county water to irrigate crops.  WBKO

HEALTH NEWS

  • Bowling Green residents will support the Run The Maple 5K on September 27 to help the Burch family search for a cure for Tri-Functional Protein Deficiency — a rare disease with about 100 known cases worldwide — as the event has already raised $425,000 for research.  WNKY
  • Rivendell Behavioral Health cut the ribbon today on a new 24-bed wing that expands services for adults needing psychiatric and substance use care and broadens its adolescent programs. The expansion brings the hospital's total beds to 149 and honors the memory of former CFO Tim Gore.  WNKY
  • BGWC Humane Society reported it took in 17 puppies with parvo in the last two weeks — staff are monitoring the situation closely.  WBKO

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday, University of Kentucky freshman Malachi Moreno, a 7-foot former Great Crossing standout and last season’s Mr. Basketball, practiced against taller and stronger players to learn how to use his body more effectively—he said he must get stronger to take advantage of his length.   • Western Kentucky’s volleyball team will begin Conference USA play Friday at 6 p.m. when they host Jacksonville State in Bowling Green—this game is the first of two scheduled for the weekend and follows a 9-4 nonconference finish while key players deal with injuries.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Western Kentucky junior midfielder Georgia Liapis was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week Tuesday after scoring her fifth goal in WKU's 2-1 win over Kennesaw State — she now leads her team in both goals and shots this season.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Bowling Green senior Caroline Childers repeated as the individual champion and led the Lady Purples to a 33-stroke win at Monday’s Region 3 Girls’ Golf Tournament at Willow Oaks Golf Course in Glasgow — she, a Winthrop commit, shot a 1-over par 72 to beat Cumberland County’s Kenzie Willen by one stroke.  Bowling Green Daily News
