COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Turning Point USA at WKU will host a candlelight vigil on South Lawn at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 to honor Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated on Sept. 10 during a public appearance at Utah Valley University — community members are invited to bring their own candle.  WNKY
  • Med Center Health will host its 46th 10K Classic this Saturday at the Bowling Green Ballpark with races including a 10K, 5K run/walk, wheelchair race and Children’s Classic. The event features new courses starting at eighth Street and finishing in the ballpark—organizers advise runners to hydrate and eat light foods in the hot weather.  WNKY
  • A car wash is set for Saturday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Burger King at 731 Campbell Lane to raise funds for Parker Bennett Community Center—donations will support the Girl Wonder Program and the Miss Parker Bennett Pageant.  WNKY

  • Ashlee Wilson and Shelby Offutt discussed this year’s Tobacco and Heritage Festival in Logan County during Wednesday’s broadcast on Sunrise Spotlight—sharing plans that celebrate local tobacco history and heritage.  WNKY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two Bowling Green High School seniors, Finley Hondorp and Kollin Hsieh, have been named National Merit semifinalists and will compete for scholarships from a pool of 26 million dollars in April. School officials said their hard work has paid off — a milestone fewer than 1% of students reach — as they look forward to future opportunities.  WBKO

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Western Kentucky women’s golf team finished third at the Badger Invitational in Madison on Tuesday—senior Sydney Hackett finished second with a score of 208 while freshman Leah Edwards placed 10th. Coach Adam Gary said the team learned key lessons from the tournament and will compete at the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate at Vanderbilt starting Friday.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • On Tuesday, the Patriots won 3-2 over Edmonson County as Tyler Shaw scored a goal and helped with an assist—Sadraka Fachhai and Jan Lopez-Magana each scored while goalkeeper Madison Vick made six saves. Other teams won in soccer and volleyball, and several matches are set for later this week.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Kayden York returned from injury and scored two touchdowns while gaining 125 total yards against Bowling Green. He led the Spartans with 79 rushing yards and 46 receiving yards — South Warren will face Hopkinsville on Sept. 19.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Warren East sophomore setter Madelyn Hoffman led the Lady Raiders with a 3-0 win in Friday’s quarterfinal and a 3-1 win in Saturday’s semifinal that pushed the team to the Kentucky 2A state championship game—though they fell to Lexington Catholic in the title match. She earned all-tournament honors and the team will play again on Tuesday at Allen County-Scottsville.  Bowling Green Daily News
