  • At the International Center, a refugee’s son remained overseas because his paperwork was stalled after the resettlement process was disrupted by federal personnel cuts — local staff also faced layoffs of nearly 30% as the center’s funding dropped. The center said it will stay open to support those seeking a new start in Bowling Green.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • On Tuesday’s Sunrise Spotlight, Ashlee Wilson talked with Jean Secrest from Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society about an adoptathon that will soon take place.  WNKY

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bowling Green’s Aviation Heritage Park & Museum celebrated National Aviation Day on August 19—an event that honored the innovation of flight with displays of historic aircraft including a fighter jet once flown by a local general and a Piper Cub commemorating Willa Brown. Executive Director Bob Bubnis said the exhibits are meant to inspire young people by showing stories of bravery and achievement in aviation.  WNKY

  • Greenwood High School teacher Scott Poe was nominated as the Hughes and Coleman Hometown Hero for his strong impact on students. His creative classroom—dressed with galaxy-patterned drapes and portraits of authors—shows his passion for teaching and builds lasting bonds with learners.  WBKO
  • Amy and David Chandler Hall—an 113,000-square-foot facility for the Gordon Ford College of Business—opened at WKU on Monday, August 18 and welcomed 2,488 students with modern classrooms, study areas and a student success center. The project, funded in part by the Kentucky General Assembly, will complete its final touches in the next two to three weeks.  Bowling Green Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Barren County magistrates have voiced support for converting the old health department building on West Washington Street into a regional licensing office so residents can renew driver’s licenses locally instead of traveling to Bowling Green or Columbia. Judge-executive Jamie Bewley Byrd said officials will visit the property on Aug. 27 to check if it has the required 2,000 to 3,000 square feet and 20 to 30 parking spaces & enough street parking.  WCLU Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials advise consumers not to eat certain Great Value shrimp sold at Walmart that are processed by PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati due to potential cesium exposure — the FDA issued the advisory after detecting Cs-137 in a shipment, and products with a best by date of March 15, 2027 should be discarded.  WNKY
