  • Today, Russell Sims Aquatic Center celebrates National Waterpark Day by offering special discounts and honoring the legacy of former Parks Director Russell Sims. The center opened in 2000 and is now in its 26th season — drawing thousands of local visitors each summer.  WNKY
  • Two WKU alumni will be honored at the Hilltopper Excellence Awards on November 14 at the Knicely Conference Center during Homecoming 2025—retired physician Jerry W. Martin from the class of 1958 will receive the Distinguished Medal of WKU Service and local artist Alice Gatewood Waddell from the class of 1974 will be presented the Distinguished Medal of Community and Public Service—marking an evening of prestigious recognition.  WNKY
  • Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society features Zeus, an energetic dog needing a large yard and a running partner to help him break out of the shelter; visit the shelter or call (270) 783-9404 to adopt him.   • Temperatures soared into the 90s over the weekend as Bowling Green residents completed the 21st annual Stuff the Bus campaign, which collected tens of thousands of school supplies for southern Kentucky students (sponsored by JC Kirby and Son).  WNKY
  • The HIVE, Inc. announced it will open a second location in Allen County in early 2026 to serve adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities—this new facility will have classrooms, a studio, art spaces, and an area for independent living. Program manager Hannah Parker is building local partnerships to help support residents in Allen and nearby counties.  WNKY

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Saturday, SKyPAC in Bowling Green hosted a staged reading of The Best Gift—a musical adaptation of A Christmas Carol—by the Ramsey Theatre Company that offered a behind-the-scenes look without full production elements. Audience feedback was gathered during the event to refine the show, which will premiere on November 21st and 22nd.  WNKY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Warren Elementary School held a ribbon cutting on Monday after nearly two years of construction as staff, teachers, first responders and community members gathered to celebrate the new facility. The school now features bright pods, a rock climbing area and a 'celebration slide' and will serve over 700 students starting Wednesday, Aug. 6 — replacing a facility that served for 52 years.  WBKO
