  • CASA of South Central Kentucky hosted its first mini golf fundraiser on Tuesday at The Shack Mini Golf—families played miniature golf and visited the dunking booth to donate for children in foster care and the family court system. Executive director Melinda Hill and board members stressed that volunteers are needed to help guide kids through challenging times.  WNKY

  • Derrick & Deserea Huff plan to open The Mustang Club soon in Bowling Green by reviving a historic gymnasium in the Shake Rag District to offer a farm to table dining experience with local farmers, distilleries, musicians, artists and authors.  WBKO

CRIME NEWS

  • Michael Mestas, 41, of Rockfield returned to Warren Circuit Court on Monday with new attorney Jason Hays and faces charges of vehicular homicide for allegedly fatally striking Terry Zweig of Bowling Green on Jan. 17; records show he was released on a $10,000 cash bond on June 24 and Hays planned to review further evidence and request a Sept. 29 court date.  Bowling Green Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • More than 1,300 driver permit tests will be available on August 2 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.—the Kentucky State Police will run the statewide event at various locations including Bowling Green. Applicants should register online and bring the required documentation to ensure a smooth testing process.  WCLU Radio
  • On July 21, Bowling Green Fire Department, Bowling Green Police, Warren County Sheriff’s Office and Med Center EMS held their annual active shooter training to improve communication, follow procedures and care for the injured—training coordinators said the drill was critical for a fast, coordinated response.  WNKY
  • Officials say that after over 10 inches of rain and widespread flooding three and a half months ago, Warren County and Bowling Green have not received FEMA approval for governmental aid—leaving city leaders to rely on a $29 million fund to cover overtime and repairs. City Manager Jeff Meisel said the city spent over $750,000 already and will not raise taxes or cut services while it continues to work with federal officials.  Bowling Green Daily News

  • Med Center Health is launching its first support group for patients with head and neck cancers to offer a safe space for sharing experiences—new members are welcome.
