Good morning, Bowling Green. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 22nd of July.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bowling Green’s SOKY Fair begins this week and officials have introduced a new clear bag policy—only small, see-through bags are allowed, and medical items can be inspected—to improve entry speed and safety. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. each night with $15 admission on Tuesday and Wednesday and $20 later in the week.  WNKY
  • Sam is an 8-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer mix—shy at first but loving once she warms up—who needs a calm home with a yard; she is available for adoption today at Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society.  WNKY
  • Ashlee Wilson interviewed Jonathan Toby and Shannon Hunt on Monday to explain the upcoming Barren River Fest—an event that promises fun on water and on dry land. Residents can learn how to join the fest by following the shared details.  WNKY
  • A 16-year-old girl has chosen to spend her birthday helping sick children at Norton Children’s Hospital — her special act reflects a caring spirit — as part of this week’s Soky's Choice feature.  WNKY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Aspiring writers gathered at the Lisa Rice Library on Sunday for an author panel where four authors—both self-published and traditionally published—shared practical advice on editing, querying, and building a platform during the summer programming aimed at teens and adults.  WNKY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bowling Green city officials are inviting residents to name five leaf trucks through its 'Name That Leaf Legend' campaign to add fun to the fall leaf pickup season. Residents must email their suggestions by 4 p.m. on August 15th—officials will review entries and announce winning names with custom signs when pickup begins on Nov. 17th and runs until Dec. 19th.  WNKY
  • The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced a traffic impact report for District 3 covering work from July 21 to July 25 that includes restoring I-165 bridges with a new traffic pattern beginning July 7 and lowering speed limits on I-165 and U.S. 231 in Bowling Green, with the US 231 safety project scheduled to conclude later this fall. The report also details drainage work on U.S. 68 in Barren County, a closed bridge on KY 1749 in Edmonson, a completed bridge replacement on KY 678 in Monroe, turn lane construction on KY 1008 in Simpson, and widening and improvement projects on U.S. 31-W, KY 185, and U.S. 68 at KY 242 in Warren County — motorists should use caution.  WNKY
  • Grass fields remain at Lovers Lane soccer complex because design delays and a sinkhole pushed back the turf installation from a planned summer deadline to mid-fall.
