COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local officials dedicated a new inclusive playground at Parker-Bennett Community Center on July 17th in nearly oven-like heat, adding adaptive play structures—ramps and sensory panels—to serve children with disabilities. Local advocates helped push for the project, which follows an earlier playground at Roland Bland Park.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • The Southern Kentucky Fair starts today at the SOKY Fairgrounds and runs through Saturday with thrill rides, fair food, live entertainment, demo derbies, a figure eight race and track events at 7:30 p.m. A new horse show will begin Tuesday, and admission is $15 from Monday through Wednesday and $20 from Thursday through Saturday (children under 36 inches enter free), while all proceeds benefit youth charities (funding local projects).  WBKO

CRIME NEWS

  • Donald Swain, 46 from Louisville, is accused of shooting Martin Auto Mart manager Dark on June 25 and was arrested on July 10; he will return to court Wednesday for a hearing to decide if his case will go to a grand jury—police say he worked with Darris Allen in the killing.  Bowling Green Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lacey Hickey was named the new principal of Richardsville Elementary by Warren County Public Schools after serving as assistant principal at Alvaton Elementary since May 2020. She begins her role today & plans to support teachers while building strong relationships with students.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • The foundation that owns WKU residence halls said it will not schedule further inspections after closing three halls built by Sewell and Sewell because of design flaws. Hilltopper Hall was marked for demolition in May while repairs are planned at Normal and Regents halls—no inspections are scheduled for the Kentucky Street Apartments.  Bowling Green Daily News
