  • The SOKY Fair will take place from July 21-26 at the Southern Kentucky Fairgrounds and will offer carnival rides, food trucks, vendors, 4-H Ag shows, track events, beauty pageants and a new Faith and Family Night featuring live music and special appearances. Hosted by the Bowling Green and Warren County Jaycees, the fair will enforce a clear bag policy for safety and open its gates at 6 p.m.  Bowling Green Daily News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire broke out at Lost River Cave’s maintenance headquarters today on Cave Mill Road. The Bowling Green Fire Department quickly contained the fire—no one was injured and the cave will continue its operations despite recent challenges.  WBKO

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities responded at 4 a.m. Monday to a disturbance on the 2700 block of North Mill Avenue when a 21-year-old Bowling Green man, later identified as Christian Chandler, allegedly pushed a woman down, strangled her and struck her before police entered the home— he now faces charges of first-degree strangulation, first-degree unlawful imprisonment and fourth-degree assault.  WNKY
  • Franklin police responded to a suspicious vehicle on Eddings Road on Monday after a Simpson County man stole a vehicle during a dispute and reportedly attempted to run over a woman; a witness said he drove dangerously to block help before fleeing and he was later arrested at a nearby business—he faces charges of auto theft, wanton endangerment and criminal mischief with a $25,000 bond.  WNKY
  • Silas Chearer, a 5-year-old boy with autism from Hart County, was reported missing and later found dead Tuesday morning in the Cub Run area after he was seen leaving his home around 8 a.m.—Kentucky State Police said they grieve with his family and the community.  Bowling Green Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nearly $2 million in federal education funds were withheld from Glasgow, Caverna and Barren County schools while Governor Beshear joined a lawsuit with leaders from 23 states and the District of Columbia — the suit claims that freezing $87 million violates federal law. School officials said districts may cut staff and cancel programs if the funds are not released before classes begin.  WCLU Radio

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Bridget Kniery, a marketing intern at St. Teresa Thrift Store and a Miami University student, created a dorm room display with thrifted items priced between $0.50 and $8 that cost less than $40 in total to help Western Kentucky University students furnish on a budget. Sales from the display return about 40% of each dollar to local food pantries and nonprofits — adding community impact to student savings.  WNKY
