  • Hundreds of runners participated in the annual Stuff the Bus 5K at Chaney’s Dairy Barn on Saturday night in Bowling Green to raise money and school supplies for local classrooms. Tony Rose, the founder of Stuff the Bus Foundation, said the event—now a year‑round mission—will support local teachers and students.  WBKO
  • Kentucky Sheriffs’ Boys—Girls Ranch opened its 50th camping season on June 9 and will run until July 17. The camp serves boys and girls on alternating weeks and offers arts and crafts, sports, swimming, fishing and leadership lessons for campers from several nearby counties.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • The Kiwanis Club of Bowling Green holds its annual All-American Soap Box Derby where kids build, inspect, and race soap box cars. Volunteers modify the cars to help every child—8-year-old Gabi Bilbrey raced using a hand brake, and the club hopes more kids will join next year.  WBKO

  • Area students from Bowling Green and nearby towns earned spots on the dean’s—and president’s lists at Campbellsville University for the spring semester, as announced on June 21. The honors recognize high academic achievement among local students.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Danny Shipley from Scottsville received the Honorary State FFA Degree at the 96th State FFA Convention in Lexington on June 21. The award honors his years of volunteer work at the Kentucky State Fair Dairy Show — a role he has maintained since retiring from teaching agriculture.  Bowling Green Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bowling Green residents protested outside Congressman Brett Guthrie’s office as 18-year-old immigrant Ernesto Manuel-Andres—who holds special legal status despite entering as a minor—was detained by ICE in May; a bond hearing is set for Monday and Guthrie has not commented on his detainment.  Spectrum News 1
  • On Friday, about 100 protesters gathered outside Congressman Guthrie’s Bowling Green office along Wilkinson Trace to demand that he support the release of 18-year-old Ernesto Manuel-Andres, who was taken by ICE on June 4 despite having legal status. Local groups said he should speak out about Ernesto’s case—Fugees Family said his next hearing is set for Monday.  Bowling Green Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Asa Weathers, a lung cancer survivor who finished chemo on Tuesday, June 17, urged adults—especially those with a long smoking history—to get screened early for lung cancer. He said that Kentucky’s lung cancer death rate is 50% higher than the national average and noted that CHI Saint Joseph offers 19 screening locations statewide.  Spectrum News 1
