EDUCATION NEWS

  • Area residents Jack Eason, Ann Hines, and Rece Jones earned degrees at the University of Alabama’s spring commencement ceremonies on June 14 — they received awards in fields such as law and commerce.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Shwe Win, a two-time WKU graduate from Bowling Green, was awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Program English Teaching Assistantship to Thailand and will serve as a cultural ambassador and English teacher during the upcoming academic year. The WKU alumna—who is a refugee and first-generation graduate and finished her Master’s in Public Health in May—joins a legacy of Hilltoppers who have earned prestigious Fulbright awards.  Bowling Green Daily News

  • Hundreds marched through downtown Bowling Green Saturday from the Old Courthouse to Circus Square Park in a 'No Kings' protest against authoritarianism. Organized by SOKY Indivisible, the event began around 11:30 a.m.—ending near E 7th Avenue at 1 p.m.—with no arrests reported and local voices raising their call for justice.  WNKY
  • Bowling Green Police mourned Master Police Officer Dale Barbiea, who died Friday morning at age 49 after battling cancer and had served since 2008 as a patrol, K+9 officer and crisis negotiator, earning honors for his work with the department. He was known for helping colleagues with personal tasks and checking on elderly residents, and his memory will guide future officers.  WBKO
