  • Sergeant Aaron Cox from the 101st Airborne Division died in Hungary on Thursday when he was injured in a vehicle accident during training for Exercise Saber Guardian 25—army officials said they are contacting his family and thanked Hungarian Allies for their support.  WBKO
  • On Saturday morning, firefighters from Browning, Woodburn, Barren River, and Hadley responded to a structure fire near a home in the Browning district — they attacked the blaze for two hours with no injuries reported — and then wrapped up their response.  WNKY

CRIME NEWS

  • Area police have warned locals about scam text messages that claim you owe a traffic ticket and threaten penalties starting June 9 — officials say to delete the texts and block the sender.  WBKO
  • An Allen County deputy fatally shot 42-year-old Joshua R. Stanka while responding to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Shockley Road in Scottsville, and the Kentucky State Police are investigating the incident.  Bowling Green Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At a special Thursday evening meeting, the Caverna School Board reviewed proposed policy changes prompted by state legislation—discussing a new 30-day paid parental leave option, the move to traceable communication for teacher-student contact, and automatic enrollment in advanced coursework while deferring some changes to the Kentucky School Boards Association; the board accepted the changes with minor notes and will finalize details at its regular meeting on June 12.  WCLU Radio
