EDUCATION NEWS

  • Michelle Trawick, a Logan County native and economics professor, was named president of Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College and will begin her role on July 31—she has worked nearly 20 years at Western Kentucky University and taught at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • The Bowling Green and Warren County school systems have released summer meal schedules to provide USDA-funded meals to children up to 18 years old. They will serve meals at school sites and along bus routes starting June 2 with various pick-up times for breakfast and lunch.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Western Kentucky University Regents approved President Timothy Caboni’s contract extension through 2029 on Friday morning, raising his base salary to $524,700 and providing him with benefits — including a leased vehicle and housing. The move reflects continued regent confidence in his leadership since he became president in 2017.  WBKO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • In Bowling Green, state law requires drivers to slow down and lower their music when passing a funeral procession—this rule honors local tradition and prevents a Class B misdemeanor that can lead to up to 90 days in jail. Local officials urge newcomers to learn this practice as the city grows.  WNKY
  • Today, the City of Bowling Green is buying four homes on Cave Mill Road for about $1.3 million to use as a water basin for flood control — the move will also allow the city to raise and widen the road to reduce future flooding.  Spectrum News 1
  • The Warren County Sheriff's Office in Bowling Green will get a new training facility with virtual reality and reconfigurable real-life scenario exercises that will also centralize offices for better communication (located at Sugar Maple Square on the outskirts of downtown). The Warren County Fiscal Court approved a $2.2 million bid (approved in late May) and construction will start mid-June and finish mid-August.  Spectrum News 1
