  • Toys for Tots hosted a shopping spree that allowed foster children from south central Kentucky to choose two free toys and books and enjoy cheerful memories. Organizers said the event (made possible by community donations) boosted the children’s spirits beyond the holiday season.  WNKY
  • Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Resources will hold Free Fishing Weekend on June 6-7 to let residents fish in public waters without a license (daily catch limits and size rules still apply). Local communities will offer youth activities and tips on gear and techniques.  WBKO

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Duncan Hines festival kicked off on May 31 in downtown with vintage car displays, live music, a parade and food trucks at Fountain Square Park—events continue through next week as the celebration honors locally born Duncan Hines.  College Heights Herald

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Regional Technology Council will launch leadership cohorts in July to help senior leaders in South Central Kentucky learn how emerging technologies can solve challenges in advanced manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, education, tourism, and agribusiness. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kentucky State Police launched a fundraiser to repair the Trooper Island Camp bus that broke down on Monday while transporting kids to camp on Dale Hollow Lake. Donations of cash, checks, and approved items are welcome to help cover the estimated $2,500 repair cost.  WBKO
  • The Kentucky Transportation report details projects in District 3, with work on I-165, KY 90, and U.S. 31-W affecting traffic today and in the coming months—motorists should expect lane reductions and delays as bridge, resurfacing, and realignment work continues.  WBKO

HEALTH NEWS

  • After a 16-year battle with a rare disease, 25-year-old Kobe Haynie returned to Bowling Green following a 13-hour lung removal surgery at Cleveland Clinic. His family celebrated his homecoming at Rich Pond Market — marking the start of a months-long recovery with activity restrictions.  WNKY

  • Bowling Green’s Luke Richey claimed runner-up honors in the boys’ 19 and under division at Friday’s Bluegrass Golf Tour Junior Series at Campbellsville Country Club. He shot an even-par 72, finishing one stroke behind winner Kaden Burton.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • The Bowling Green Hot Rods lost 4-3 to the Hudson Valley Renegades on Sunday at Heritage Financial Park in Wappingers Falls, New York. Adrian Santana extended his 20-game on-base streak before a late collapse let Hudson Valley tie and win in the final inning.  Bowling Green Daily News
