CULTURE NEWS

  • Duncan Hines Days is expanding to 24 events over seven days beginning tomorrow with a revamped downtown kickoff that features a car show, block party, and interactive activities for all ages — local attractions will offer themed desserts and unique tours to honor the famed road trip guide.  WBKO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • In Bowling Green, over 30 children returned Friday from a week at Trooper Island on Dale Hollow Lake where they learned archery, kayaking, swimming and camping. The Kentucky State Police run the camp to help underprivileged kids build trust + learn new skills.  WNKY
  • WKU’s Board of Regents will vote next week on raising semester tuition to $6,246 for in-state students for the 2026-27 academic year. The proposal, recommended by President Timothy Caboni, marks a 1.85% increase from the current rate of $6,036.  College Heights Herald
  • The Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library will host the Jurassic Spelling Bee on Thursday, June 4 at 6 p.m. (spellers 18 or older must pre-register while teams of 2 to 4 compete in dinosaur-themed word puzzles) and the public may attend free.  WCLU Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Barren River Area Development District approved a nearly $51 million fiscal 2027 budget that dedicates $17 million to the Anchor Project, a mental health and substance abuse recovery facility under construction near LifeSkills in Bowling Green. Five sinkholes delayed construction; officials expect the project to open by next summer.  WNKY

HEALTH NEWS

  • Governor Andy Beshear said new mental health services will expand how residents access crisis help as Mental Health Awareness Month ends this weekend. His office noted improved lifeline response times (averaging 25 seconds) and increased coverage through recent legislation.  WBKO

SPORTS NEWS

  • NCM Motorsports Park hosted a women-only high-performance driving introduction on Friday. In sessions led by instructor Rebecca Campbell (focusing on on-track skills and safety), participants practiced driving drills and received classroom lessons to build confidence behind the wheel.  WBKO
  • The Trojanettes lost 4-0 to top-ranked South Warren in the Fourth Region Softball title game on Thursday night. Pitcher Shea Bogue struck out key batters while coach Daryl Murphy said the team will work to improve for future tournaments.  WCLU Radio
  • Results from the 2026 Final Area Leaders track meet were released on Friday, May 29, highlighting Bowling Green athletes alongside competitors from nearby counties.   • The South Warren girls’ tennis team advanced to the state semifinals after winning two matches at a state tournament in Lexington on Thursday and was set to face Daviess County in Friday’s semifinal match.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Bowling Green’s Dai’Shaun Flippin and Woodburn’s Carson Smith tied for first-place in the boys’ 19 and under division at a Bluegrass Golf Tour Series event held Thursday at Lincoln Trail Golf Course in Vine Grove; both shot a 5-over par 77 to earn co-medalist honors.  Bowling Green Daily News
