  • On May 19, ribbon-cutting ceremonies took place at Jackie Browning Park and Jennings Creek Park to mark new local improvements. The Butler County Animal Shelter and Clinic will hold a ribbon-cutting this Wednesday to reveal its new facility—while the Hot Rods host six games this week with family-friendly promotions.  WNKY

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Severe weather over the weekend killed 19 people in Kentucky with 18 deaths occurring on May 16 in Laurel and Pulaski counties plus one death on May 18 in Russell County, while Governor Beshear declared a state of emergency and said 10 injured people are being treated at University of Kentucky hospital.  WCLU Radio

  • Warren County deputies arrested Aurea E. Hernandez, 30, on May 15 after a custodial interference call led them to a silver Lexus on Cemetery Road—where a strong marijuana odor prompted a search that uncovered a stolen Glock 42 and drugs including cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, and marijuana—and the investigation is ongoing.  WBKO
  • A man who recruited an 18-year-old woman into illegal sex work may face a life sentence if a judge accepts prosecutors’ request + Portier Quartez Govan, 39, is set to be sentenced on June 11 in U.S. District Court after a jury found him guilty of several crimes + his violent actions and past convictions added to the request for the maximum penalty.  Bowling Green Daily News

  • WKU is starting several campus projects this summer with repairs on Normal, Regents, and Cherry halls while Gordon Wilson Hall will get an elevator—part of a plan supported by the SGA.
