  • The Bowling Green-Warren County Humane Society saw a surge in pet adoptions thanks to the Bissell + Empty the Shelters campaign offering reduced fees through Sunday. In the past two weeks, shelter staff adopted out 135 of 185 animals to ease overcrowding and promote better care.  WNKY

CULTURE NEWS

  • A Throwback Thursday piece reviews a Civil War plot when Kentucky-born Dr. Luke Pryor Blackburn allegedly smuggled yellow fever–contaminated items (clothing, sheets) from Bermuda to the North in 1864. The plan unraveled after investigators tracked suspicious shipments, and Blackburn later rebuilt his reputation as governor.  WNKY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Beshear announced today that Bowling Green gained Kentucky’s 10th EV fast-charging station at Casey’s on Russellville Rd. — the site has four charging ports at up to 400 kW each and was built by Francis Energy under the federally funded NEVI program.  WBKO
  • Warren County retired former court security officer Johnny Bullington was honored when Judge Executive Doug Gorman read his proclamation during fiscal court on Thursday morning. The sheriff’s office praised his service from February 2023 until March 26 and noted his resilience while battling a serious illness (a highlight for the community).  WNKY

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Medical Center at Bowling Green held its annual awards Monday, honoring nurses and support staff with titles like Nurse of the Year, Clinical Support Person of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and the Faye White Nursing Leadership Award. Winners included Jaclyn Carter, Lisa Adkinson, Eli Alvey, and Crystal Thomas.  WNKY

  • WKU men's basketball coach Hank Plona signed redshirt senior Trevion LaBeaux for the 2026-27 season on Thursday, May 14. LaBeaux played at East Carolina and Indian Hills and comes back from injury to help the team win.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Western Kentucky softball’s Erica Houge, Annie White, and Jenna Blanton were named NFCA All-Region team members on Thursday + Houge earned Second Team honor while White and Blanton received Third Team recognition.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • At a Wednesday Class 2A, Region 2 track meet, host Warren East finished second in boys' competition with 90 points after champion Taylor County scored 102 points — Brayden Lightfoot won both the long jump and high jump, and in the girls' event, LaRue County earned first place with 111 points.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Bowling Green Hot Rods set a franchise record with nine stolen bases in a 5-1 win over the Greenville Drive Thursday at Fluor Field. They will face Greenville again today at 5:45 p.m. with LHP Garrett Gainey set to pitch.  WNKY
