  • Spencer’s Coffee hosted last month’s My Old Kentucky Throwdown, awarding $1,000 to the top latte art and cash prizes to runners-up. The event raised over $1,500 for The Hive, Inc. to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, with 33 competitors from several states.  WNKY
  • Dollar General’s extra $1 million commitment will boost local food rescue efforts in Bowling Green and nearby counties as FAKH (Feeding America’s Kentucky Heartland) expands its retail rescue program to collect surplus perishable, frozen, and shelf-stable food for local pantries and meal programs.  WBKO
  • The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce held its Excellence Awards Luncheon on May 12, honoring local business leaders and organizations. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Lottery officials said a Millionaire for Life ticket sold at AM Express on 677 Three Springs Road won $100,000 a year for life, marking the game’s second second-tier win since February; a $50,000 Powerball ticket purchased online also won third prize Monday and winners must claim their prize at lottery headquarters in Louisville.  WNKY

  • John Sunnygard, associate provost for global learning at WKU, celebrated his retirement at a Mahurin Honors College and International Center event on Monday, May 11 and will officially retire at the end of May. He said he looks forward to spending time with his wife and pets (dogs, chickens, and cats).  College Heights Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • Greenwood's Lady Gators softball team won 12-2 in a five-inning game at Greenwood High School on Monday. The team honored its four seniors and now has six straight wins as it prepares for a regular season finale against Assumption on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Bowling Green senior John Mosley (3-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs) led the visiting Purples to a 10-0 win over Warren East on Monday and the team will face Barren County on Tuesday.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • South Warren won a state volleyball match on Monday, May 12 when Reed Roebuck recorded eight aces in a 3-0 victory over Iroquois. The team now prepares for a second-round matchup on Friday at George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Greenwood’s girls and South Warren’s boys won team championships in Monday’s Class 3A track meet held in Bowling Green. The Lady Gators — with 122 points — outscored North Hardin while the Spartans earned 126 points in a ten-team field.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Jerone Morton, the state tournament MVP from George Rogers Clark, returned home to play for Kentucky after a season at Washington State — he said his decision was his own and he aims to boost the team with strong defense.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Mahurin Family Foundation Head Coach Hank Plona announced the signing of 6-8 rising sophomore EJ Walker to the 2026-27 roster after he played for South Carolina in 2025-26 — Walker was Kentucky’s No. 2 high school prospect and is expected to bring scoring, rebounding and versatility to the team.  WNKY
