  • Uzbekistan-based AKFA Aluminum Solutions broke ground yesterday at Kentucky Transpark on a nearly 150,000 sqft advanced manufacturing site that will open in July, bringing over 300 jobs with a $79 million first-phase investment & support from regional partners.  Bowling Green Daily News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AKFA Aluminum Solutions held a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday morning in Warren County for its new facility that will create 331 jobs. Local and state officials praised the project (which will feature advanced extrusion, anodizing and finishing operations) as a positive boost for the region’s low-carbon economy.  WBKO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell announced winners of the KDA annual Poster and Essay Contest, including five local students who will each receive a $100 award. Their work will be showcased at the state fair and an honor ceremony will be held Saturday, May 30 at Gallrein Farms in Shelbyville.  WNKY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bowling Green city commissioners renewed a $120,000 agreement with Goodwill Industries to extend the Another Way homeless aid program that connects individuals to work opportunities and resources, while a $185,000 grant from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will pay for repairs to a sinkhole on Grinstead Way.  Bowling Green Daily News

  • On Thursday, May 7, four WKU women's golf team members earned Conference USA postseason awards. Reagan Ramage was named Freshman of the Year & Coach Adam Gary earned his third straight award, while Sydney Hackett & Leah Edwards received First and Third Team honors.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Tony Santa Maria drove the Hot Rods to an 8-4 win over the Brooklyn Cyclones on May 6 at Bowling Green Ballpark by scoring five RBIs and tying his career best (the highest total for a Hot Rods player since Carlos Colmenarez on Sept. 4, 2025).  Bowling Green Daily News

  • Western Kentucky women’s volleyball announced its 2026 schedule on May 7, with 28 matches featuring 14 home games and contests against NCAA teams (including games against Wright State and Louisville).
