  • Community members, city officials and students gathered Friday morning at Pioneer Cemetery to dedicate a new Liberty Tree (organized by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution) as part of 250th anniversary celebrations, honoring early patriots and veterans buried there.  WNKY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At their April 20 meeting, Service One Credit Union donated $15,000 to the SKYCTC Foundation after its Giving Day challenge — which saw 104 donors contribute over $32,000 — to support programs that equip students with hands-on training, uniform assistance and professional development.  WNKY
  • Caden Lucas, a WKU junior, was named a Truman Scholar by a panel that chose him from 198 finalists, marking the second time a student from the university won the award. The $30,000 scholarship includes mentoring for graduate or professional studies.  WBKO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Bowling Green launched a limited-edition challenge coin pre-sale to mark America’s 250th anniversary and support downtown events. Sales opened Friday, April 24 on Everbrite with 300 coins available for $10 (in-person pickup) or $15 (shipping) and will end at midnight May 9.  WNKY

SPORTS NEWS

  • Seven Bowling Green High School athletes signed with college sports programs on Wednesday at their school—committing to baseball, football, women’s basketball, softball, soccer and bowling.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • On Thursday, Greenwood’s Lady Gators won 8-6 in girls’ lacrosse as Madison Hershberg scored three goals. Greenwood also saw wins in baseball and softball and is set to host Bowling Green on Tuesday for its next contest.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • On April 24, local track and field athletes from counties including Bowling Green (BG), Glasgow (GLAS), and South Warren (SW) competed in sprint, relay, and field events. Bowling Green’s Zyrek Burton won the boys’ 100-meter dash in 10.70 seconds while local competitors posted strong results in jumps and throws.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Will McCoy is stepping down as Greenwood High School's boys basketball coach after seven seasons and 121 wins to take the head coach role at Franklin-Simpson. A press conference (Monday, April 27 at 11:00 a.m. at the FSHS Performing Arts Center) will introduce him.  WNKY
  • WKU athletics hosted the ninth annual TOPSY Awards last Thursday evening at its campus, awarding 28 honors recognizing excellence in academics, community service, and athletic performance.   • The Bowling Green Hot Rods won 12-5 over the Jersey Shore Blue Claws at the Bowling Green Ballpark on Thursday. The team set a season high with 14 hits and scored in every inning, with manager Rafael Valenzuela saying timely hitting helped secure the win.  Bowling Green Daily News
