GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Bowling Green Area Convention & Visitors Bureau held a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday for its new building off Ewing Way, across from Lovers Lane near exit 26 on I-65. The new site will replace the 35-year-old location on Three Springs Road and offer a larger space with closer access to local attractions.  WNKY
  • The Bowling Green Fire Department surprised retired Capt. Bob Sanborn when it revealed that the Drill Tower behind Station 5 on Porter Pike was renamed the Bob Sanborn Drill Tower to honor his work with the training division — city officials and BGFD staff joined the tribute — on April 23.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • The Bowling Green Fire Department dedicated a newly renovated drill tower at its training facility on Wednesday—naming it after long-time firefighter and trainer Bob Sanborn. The tower, built in 1980, received structural reinforcement and a new paint job to train future firefighters.  WNKY
  • On Tuesday, Congressman Brett Guthrie welcomed Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum to Mammoth Cave National Park for a guided tour during National Park Week to discuss preserving public lands. Officials said the visit underscores plans for the Mammoth Cave National Park Boundary Adjustment Act, which will let the park buy land from the Nature Conservancy to protect the Green River watershed.  WNKY
  • Bowling Green was approved for a $1 million grant in December 2023 to fund two new storm shelters that will automatically unlock when an emergency warning is activated and include restrooms. The shelters—each holding about 300 people—are planned for Hobson Grove and Lampkin Parks and will begin construction when the design review by the Kentucky Emergency Management Agency and FEMA is complete.  WBKO
