  • On Monday, the Family Enrichment Center hosted its third annual Fore Our Kids golf scramble to raise $30,000 for its early childhood program (Parents as Teachers). Over 100 golfers participated in mini games on the course that offered prizes and raised awareness for child safety in Bowling Green.  WNKY
  • Community members and WKU students gathered on Saturday to support mental health awareness at the annual Out of Darkness Walk (featuring honor beads that represent different personal struggles). Organizers urged advocacy and shared resources to help save lives.  WNKY
  • The BG/WC Humane Society launched an online silent auction to support shelter pets — bidding runs through Saturday, April 25 at 7:00 p.m. CDT — offering prizes such as an Ultimate Disney World trip and luxury getaways.  WBKO
  • Today at the Down Syndrome of Southern KY Buddy House in Bowling Green, Poppy’s Pop-In, hosted by Flora Templeton Stuart, reported on upcoming community events and presented a donation to support local work.  WNKY
  • Former WKU player and longtime coach Mary Taylor Cowles is hosting an MS fundraiser at Pleasant Hill Farms from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday — the event will feature NFL Draft coverage, a live auction led by her son, and all proceeds will benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.  WNKY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hannah Reckart, Center for Courageous Kids Medical Director, has been chosen for the ELEVATE Kentucky 2026 program. She will attend three statewide sessions from April through June to build leadership skills — a move that strengthens her professional network.  WNKY
  • House Bill 490 passed last Tuesday and becomes law—allowing universities to cut tenured positions for financial reasons. WKU officials said they will review the faculty handbook and hold a meeting over summer break to discuss changes before the law takes effect July 1 with policies updated by Oct. 1.  College Heights Herald
  • Glasgow native Emma Bunch, a WKU graduate, has earned a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship that will fund her cancer treatment research. She will pursue her Ph.D. in biomedical engineering at the University of Kentucky to boost immunotherapy systems.  WCLU Radio
  • WKU in Bowling Green was accused by Accuracy In Media on Mar. 9 of using House Bill 4 to continue teaching DEI—legal counsel Andrea Anderson said accreditation guidelines exempt those courses. A university spokesperson said proper procedures were followed.  College Heights Herald
  • Bowling Green Independent Schools announced Monday afternoon that Afton Proffiitt will serve as the new principal of its preschool program Itty Bitty Purples, starting July 1. She brings experience as a school counselor at T. C. Cherry Elementary and as a special education teacher in local school districts.  WNKY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State funding of $16 million will support phase four of Riverfront Park known as Riverfront Park East on a 54-acre site, with $8 million allocated for design this year and $8 million for next year. Construction will begin next year to help finish the park within five years.  Bowling Green Daily News

  • Bowling Green High School sophomore Faith Evans will represent Team USA in Australia at the Coast 2 Coast International Athletics Track and Field Championships from July 4-6.
