EDUCATION NEWS

  • Western Kentucky student-athletes earned a record 101 CUSA Academic Medals—surpassing last year's total of 86. The conference announced Friday that the medals honor athletes with a GPA of 3.75 or higher.  Bowling Green Daily News

  • The Warren County Fire Department is launching a Tactical Thermal Imaging training course this fall to help firefighters move quickly and work safely. Fire Training LLC and world-renowned Andy Starnes’ business will provide advanced equipment — designed to help locate fires and find safe access paths.  WBKO

SPORTS NEWS

  • Western Kentucky’s women's tennis team swept Campbellsville 7-0 at the Warren County Tennis Facility last Thursday — Coach Greg Davis reached 88 wins and the team now prepares to visit Austin Peay on Saturday.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • On Friday, Apr. 3, J.D. Gonzalez recorded his first multi-hit game as the Hot Rods won 4-2 over the Dash at Bowling Green Ballpark, with the bullpen pitching four scoreless innings. The team played the second game Saturday at 4:05 p.m.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Western Kentucky’s softball team swept the series with a 7-4 win over Sam Houston on Friday at the WKU Softball Complex. Lauren Satterly and Morgan Sharpe led the offense as the team improved its home record.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Western Kentucky's baseball team fell to Liberty 6-2 Friday at Nick Denes Field. WKU wrapped up the three-game series with Liberty on Saturday at noon—fans were asked to park in Parking Structure 2.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • WKU men's golf team is tied for fifth in the Mason Rudolph Championship after the first round at Vanderbilt Legends Club. Rafe Blankenship tied his career best with a 68 and coach Austin King said the team handled the wind better — the second round is set for Saturday.  Bowling Green Daily News

  • WKU hired Chase Lane as director of scouting on Friday, Apr. 3 and Will McNamara as assistant director of compliance; Lane (formerly of Georgia Tech’s recruiting and NIL collective) and McNamara (from Ball State) join the Hilltoppers ahead of their Sept. 5 season opener at Nevada.  Bowling Green Daily News
