  • Dillon Meador and his family are hosting three fundraisers—a benefit car show on April 26 at Kirby Funeral Services in Russellville, custom shirts, and a popcorn sale—to cover travel expenses for his trip to Minneapolis for Special Olympics USA games; remaining funds will support other athletes.  WBKO
  • WKU students raised $141,555.32 for Norton Children’s Hospital with the 12th Dance Big Red dance marathon on Friday, Mar. 6 at the university’s Raymond B. Preston Health & Activities Center.   • Perdue Farms and Sleep in Heavenly Peace built beds for children in need in Ohio County on Saturday and donated $50,000 to support future builds (they have delivered over 100 beds so far).  WBKO

CULTURE NEWS

  • Author and disability advocate Rebekah Taussig spoke at WKU’s Potter College of Arts Cultural Enhancement Series in Chandler Hall’s Auditorium on Thursday, Mar. 5 about creating accessible spaces for all. She discussed improving architectural & technological accessibility to meet diverse needs.  College Heights Herald
  • Local author J.R. Shepherd debuted his fantasy novel, The Gathering, during a bookstore signing Saturday morning at One More Chapter in Cave City. Fans lined up for autographs—catching a glimpse of his creative journey and plans for a sequel later this year.  WCLU Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Last week, more than 100 volunteers read to preschoolers at 31 preschools and daycares across 106 classrooms in six counties as part of United Way of Southern Kentucky’s “Read United” initiative — boosting early literacy — with Warren County Judge-Executive Doug Gorman among them.  Bowling Green Daily News

  • The only Muhlenberg County dialysis clinic (Central City) will close March 30, forcing patients to drive to treatment centers in Owensboro, Madisonville, or Bowling Green. Fresenius Medical Care is coordinating care transitions to help ensure treatment continues without interruption.  WBKO

  • Franklin-Simpson's Lady Wildcats defeated Allen County-Scottsville 74-51 at E. A. Diddle Arena on Friday, March 6 — Barren County's Trojanettes won 45-25 over Monroe County to reach Saturday's championship game.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Western Kentucky lost to FIU 92-67 on Saturday at Miami’s Ocean Bank Convocation Center, finishing the season with an 18-13 record. The Tops now are the No. 3 seed and will face Kennesaw State in the Conference USA quarterfinals (8 p.m. CT on Thursday).  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Western Kentucky's softball team swept Missouri State in a doubleheader at the WKU Softball Complex on Friday with a walk-off win and an 8-0 run-rule win. The team will complete the series today at noon.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • The Franklin-Simpson Lady Cats won the Girls Region 4 Championship with a 60-56 overtime victory over Barren County at E. A.
