CULTURE NEWS

  • Riverview At Hobson Grove museum will host three 1 p.m. programs in March and April to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary. These events at Hobson Grove Park include a Kentucky Derby slideshow (featuring a book signing), a Revolutionary War trunk display, and an Underground Railroad talk with $30 tickets.  Bowling Green Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gary Hairlson, a WKU alum and retired multimedia director with 40+ years of experience, spoke at the WKU NABJ Speaker Series event on Feb. 19 at the JRH auditorium. He urged journalism students to read and write more to build strong reporting skills.  College Heights Herald
  • On campus this week, WKU will begin demolishing buildings on State and Chestnut Streets and share new dorm renderings as a petition gathers to save the greenhouse + novelist Nathan Gower visits campus after a Men’s Basketball win over Liberty.  College Heights Herald

  • Western Kentucky’s softball team finished a perfect 4-0 weekend at the Hilltopper Classic on Saturday at the WKU Softball Complex, winning 9-1 over Detroit Mercy in five innings and 8-4 against Western Michigan to improve their overall record to 10-3.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Bowling Green junior guard Braylon Anderson scored 22 points as the Purples closed out their season with an 82-71 win over Muhlenberg County Friday night. They will face No. 1 seed Warren Central in the District 14 tournament on Tuesday.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • The final Daily News Top 10 poll confirms Warren Central's Dragons and Barren County's Trojanettes as unanimous No. 1 picks this season, with Bowling Green ranking fourth in the boys' poll and seventh in the girls' poll & key positions remaining stable.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Allen County-Scottsville’s girls' basketball team earned honors on Friday when junior Avery Morris was named the Region 4 Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year and senior Debora Patrick earned the KABC Region 4 Girls’ Player of the Year award — Morris set the school’s scoring record in a 20-7 season.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • WKU’s baseball team split its doubleheader against SEMO Saturday, losing 8-7 then winning 11-8 to clinch the series and improve to a 5-3 record; they will travel Tuesday to Kentucky Proud Park for a 3:00 p.m. contest + game streamed live on SEC Network.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • The Western Kentucky Lady Tops improved their score by 14 strokes in the second round of the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational held Saturday in Eatonton, Georgia after weather delayed play.   • Western Kentucky beat Liberty 94-73 at Liberty Arena on Saturday, handing the Flames their first CUSA loss and snapping a 17-game win streak+ The Hilltoppers shot 52.5% with key scores from Teagan Moore and Grant Newell.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • South Warren’s Brian Bosse earned four podium finishes at Friday’s KHSAA State Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Kentucky’s Lancaster Aquatic Center in Lexington, finishing fourth in the 50-yard freestyle while his team tied for sixth with 104 points, and Bowling Green’s Jeremiah Lewis placed eighth in diving.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • The Western Kentucky women’s golf team finished the Reynolds Lake Invitational on Sunday in Eatonton, Georgia with an eighth-place ranking.
