ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A section of roadway at Lovers Lane and Cemetery Road will close on Sunday, Feb. 22 from about 6:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. for accident reconstruction — motorists should expect delays and detours until the work is completed.  WNKY

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mardi Gras arrived downtown as Boogie Down Bourbon Street returned to host a festive event with live music, bourbon tastings, auction events, and New Orleans-inspired Cajun cuisine for CASA of South Central Kentucky — its annual fundraiser for supporting volunteer training for children in foster care.  WNKY
  • The African-American Heritage Center in Franklin is keeping local Black history alive with exhibits, guided tours, and research opportunities at three sites (including a computer lab, library, and meeting rooms). It plans to help young people learn about the past and shape a better future.  WNKY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WKU introduces plans to replace the old Douglas Keen and Hugh Poland Halls with a 1,000-bed complex atop the Hill. Construction will begin after final approval in late spring or early summer with the new building scheduled to open in fall 2028 — part of the Elevate WKU campus update.  WNKY
  • WKU’s Board of Regents approved 10 new academic programs, including Bachelor’s and Master’s in Disaster Science, at its Friday meeting, and the university reported net tuition revenue increased + $9.5 million. The decision also suspended one degree and one minor as part of a strategic realignment.  College Heights Herald
  • Rep. Brett Guthrie invited high school artists in the region to join the 2026 Congressional Art Competition. Entries are due April 1 at the district office (996 Wilkinson Trace, Suite B2), with winning work shown at the U.S. Capitol and local offices and a Facebook vote from April 6-10.  WCLU Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Thursday, Feb. 19, Davis Switzer scored 33 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Logan County in a 76-68 win against Christian County. Logan County will host Todd County Central in the District 13 tournament semifinals on Monday, Feb. 23.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Barren County ended its regular season at Russell County with a 59-43 win as Shelby Byrd led with 19 points and the team took an early lead. They will open the 15th District Tournament on Monday at 6:00 p.m. in Glasgow.  WCLU Radio
  • Greenwood's boys basketball team won 83-59 at Warren East on Thursday, building an early lead that allowed starters to rest ahead of Tuesday's district tournament; meanwhile, the girls beat their rivals 68-47 and will take on district play on Monday.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Barren County coach Piper Lindsey was voted girls' basketball coach of the year by the 4th Region Basketball Coaches Association — marking her 11th season and a 27-2 record as the Trojanettes prepare to open the 15th District Tournament on Monday at 6 p.m. at Glasgow.  WCLU Radio
