EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Feb. 3, Gov. Beshear pitched a universal pre-K proposal at the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, calling for $40.5 million for the program and $10 million for a data system, with funding from the sports wagering excise tax to boost school readiness for all young Kentuckians.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • WKU President Caboni announced that Regents and Normal halls will reopen in fall 2027 (with repairs on schedule) and work will begin to tear down Hilltopper Hall day after spring graduation to clear space for a new housing complex. He also said three off-campus organizations were disaffiliated following HB4 compliance.  College Heights Herald

  • Warren County Public Library named Alex Love as acting director after two co-directors resigned on Friday. The former leaders resigned for personal reasons and thanked staff and the community for their support.  Bowling Green Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local doctor Dr. Suman Shekar at Med Center Health in Bowling Green said 50 to 60 percent of the population experiences winter fatigue due to lower daylight and social isolation. She advised eating a balanced diet, exercising 20 to 30 minutes daily, & getting seasonal vaccinations to manage winter blues.  WBKO

SPORTS NEWS

  • Western Kentucky ended a four-game losing streak with a 65-60 win at Middle Tennessee when Kade Unseld scored 17 points and veterans rallied the team. The Hilltoppers will host Jacksonville State at 8 p.m. on Thursday at E.A. Diddle Arena (hoping to build on this win).  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Greenwood's Isaiah Summers hit a buzzer shot with 0.2 seconds left to give his team an 84 to 82 win over Bowling Green on Monday at Greenwood High. The win guarantees a top three district seed — Bowling Green must beat South on Friday to avoid a lower seed.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • Allen County-Scottsville guard Avery Morris scored 38 points to lead ACS Lady Patriots to an 84-73 win against Macon County Monday night — she hit six 3-pointers while teammates added key points to secure the victory.  Bowling Green Daily News
  • WKU softball pitcher Maddy Wood joined Samantha Money on News 40 to preview the season as the Hilltoppers were picked 4th in the CUSA preseason poll. The team will open at the Bash in the Boro tournament at Georgia Southern on Friday, Feb. 6.  WNKY
  • Over 450 athletes on 43 teams will play in the Region 1 Basketball Tournament on Feb. 7-8 at Kummer and Little Recreation Centers and at F.O. Moxley Community Center. Twelve teams will earn a berth to the State Tournament in Louisville on March 14-15.  WNKY
