COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Since 2020, SOKY Patriots and Feeding America have distributed weekly food bags to local children in Warren County Public Schools and Bowling Green Independent School District, and they will host a fundraiser at Sam’s Club in Bowling Green on Saturday, Jan. 10 to support the growing effort.  WNKY
  • Hundreds will run or walk in the Lost River Cave 12th annual Snow Flurry Scurry 5K on Jan. 31 at 9 a.m., starting at Greenway Trails and finishing at the Cavern Nite Club (registration runs until Jan. 9).  WNKY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Effective Jan. 1, 2026, all tobacco, nicotine and vape retailers had to obtain a state license through the Alcohol Beverage Control Board to enforce sales restrictions. Up in Smoke owner Tyler Duke said enforcement remained uneven (with miscommunication clouding the process) and urged clearer guidelines to protect kids.  WBKO
  • The city is offering neighborhood improvement grants that provide up to $6,000 for community projects within city limits. Applications for the spring cycle must be submitted by February 1 and will be reviewed at the March Board of Commissioners meeting (eligibility requires a local neighborhood affiliation).  WBKO

SPORTS NEWS

  • WKU Hilltopper Basketball beat Sam Houston 102-91 Friday at E. A. Diddle Arena after starting slow. Teagan Moore led the team—scoring 28 points and sparking a strong comeback for their first Conference USA win.  WNKY
  • Warren Central hosted a doubleheader on Jan. 2 — the first high school hoops games of the new year — with Bowling Green, where the girls won 49-7 and the boys won 69-45.  WNKY
  • Barren County’s Trojans defeated Warren East 72-49 in a 15th District basketball contest. Key plays featured loose ball recoveries, 3-pointers, and vital rebounds from players like Weston Shelton, Cameron Pippen, and Kataviun Fryar.  WCLU Radio
  • The WKU men's basketball team rallied from a slow start on Friday at E. A. Diddle Arena to secure a 102-91 win over Sam Houston. Teagan Moore recorded a career high 28 points and coach Hank Plona said the team showed toughness during the game.  Bowling Green Daily News
